This really is a must read for anyone in academia.

I feel bad because I WANT to like YRe - and wanted to like the original YL - but even YRe just keeps doing stuff that makes me go "... I've seen this done better in other games and I'm not sure the charm offensive is enough to sustain it". It has, but it's nothing I can recommend to anyone.

Luck has been with me so far as family events and I managed to get a calm weekend. Deleted about a hundred or so words, but otherwise still managed to add about 1276 to "Adventures" today.

May we progress steadily and with speed, and hopefully I can finish this chapter before the new year.

I've put about 12 or 13 hours into the game, if that tells you anything. That's also pretty much every Pagie from 4 of the 5 worlds plus the main hub area, minus the ones that are obviously from the final boss. Which I'm just lazy in getting because I want to get world 5 first.

I can't make up my mind if Yooka-Replaylee is just "okay compared to the original" or actually good.

It's basically "we need an updated Banjo-Kazooie", but while BK does everything probably better - and YRe makes me occasionally want to throw a controller - I haven't exactly stopped going for 100%.

90% of all anime/gatcha/visual novels are dominated by female characters. But gay men make something for themselves every once in a while and you guys won't stop shitting your pants over it.

8 and 21, while still strong and guileful, were oddly kind of peacemakers among wolves, and used that strength for defense more than offense. Yet their interactions with other wolves isn't that of hair-trigger violence but careful questioning of motives and relations... and frequently acceptance.

The full story in McIntyre's books is fascinating. Especially regarding 8 and 21 - and later 302 (a wolf that 21 effectively rehabilitated) - it goes against a lot of the "strong alpha" mentality, especially used in right-wing circles, by showcasing a surprisingly diplomatic set of wolves.

8-2 and 21-42 are also some of the more deeply-researched and strongest pair-bonds in wolf history. To the point that when 42 died, 21 frequently (over the next year or so) returned to her place of death, then went off by himself and died practically in the same spot.

8-2 and 21-42 are oddities among wolves because they were astoundingly gentle by comparison when dealing with neighbors. Disputes were cleared mostly by chasing off rather than beating up, and mates 2 and 42 sometimes took the lead in deciding who and what stayed or went.

I say "tamed" because, up to this point, the Druids were the "big bads" of Yellowstone: bullied other packs, took whatever they damn well wanted, and were big enough (size and pack-size) they could steamroll everyone.

21 took 8's route and the pack got A LOT more peaceful with him around.

21 was one of the adopted pups and lived with 8 for a while. But while 8 could basically bap the Druids into submission, 21 became 8 on steroids: one of the biggest wolves in the park, 21 eventually moved over to the Druids, became their alpha pair-bond with 42, and TAMED them.

8 had weird tendencies. Most times it was assumed that packs would either kill or drive off wolves not part of the pack. 8 would basically rough 'em up a bit without actually harming them and give them a chance to leave. The only pack 8 ever had trouble with were the Druids and he still did it.

8's one of the first cases of adoption, or - more accurately - of a widow wolf choosing a new life partner. When 8 came upon a mom and her pups whose father was shot, 8 ingratiated himself into the new pack, accepted the cubs basically as his, and formed a new pair-bond with the female.

Why I'm *not* joking:

Wolf 21's story - and Rick's extended story of the three main alphas of Yellowstone's wolf reintroduction - bucks the trend with MOST of the "accepted" research we knew about males and alphas. 21 and his predecessor 8 did things that we hadn't expected of wolves prior.
