New @nber.org WP out from Bocar Ba today. I edited several rounds on this paper and remain so impressed that while lots of economists have frozen or relabeled their research agendas related to racial equity, Bocar has held steady. He's brave and I'm proud to be his editor www.nber.org/papers/w34933
Seattle trees are so confused this winter. (Context: both of these are blooming way earlier than usual and are now coated in snow.)
First snow of the winter in Seattle today! No snow day yet, but it’s still snowing.
This demography thread is such a wealth of interesting and useful data.
No worries. I hope it’s real, since I do a lot of this type of research and never know where to publish it. It’s too Econ-y for public health journals but to much of a “case study” for many Econ-adjacent journals.
I talked to dozens of experts in government, academia, cybersecurity, and industry about exactly this scenario last year and not only did not one of them think I was being alarmist, many brought it up unprompted and many said there was zero chance it hadn’t already happened
Really? So they’re saying my entire career is a joke?? (Just kidding, but I’m pretty sure it’s real since they have sent out a few emails about it.)

Republicans are using kids as a smokescreen for what Big Tech lobbyists want: a national surveillance program to harvest our data with zero protections for people and their privacy.
We must fight this dangerous expansion of surveillance technology.

I’m going to submit so many papers to this journal 😍.
Presumably. Makes me think those initiatives to teach faculty how to write op-eds have gone off the rails a bit.
Super not chill that my online mom chat is all about the possibility of our sons being drafted right now.
I think I’m old enough for my childhood to qualify as one generation ago, and both of my parents worked (my mom was the breadwinner) and I think all of my friends’ moms worked, even if they were in part time jobs. Also, our vacations were driving in the car to stay in a hotel for three days.
LOL and WTF? Maybe our need to say any dumbass thing we possibly can to get attention on the internet is what is destroying society, and not *ordering off of a menu* 😡.
don’t forget to destroy your clocks tonight, walk away from your mortgage, just start driving, you’re free

literally your customer base was 90% parents of young children who want a good future for their kids in which they can be free to be themselves, no matter who they are. you told those people to go fuck themselves. they won't be back

A growing number of people are interested in switching to plant-based alternatives to dairy. But are they better for the environment, and which is best?
Hi — new to BlueSky! I’m a journalist covering how health policy and systems impact people. Lately I’ve reported on federal cuts hitting a rural bioscience hub, a town recovering from meth, and a man who said he had to break Medicaid rules.
Based in Montana, I write for both 📰 and 📻

Important to remember how much Democrats continued to rely on this guy AFTER he said that women were underrepresented in science due to innate mathematical inability. Harvard left him to continue to lead students after saying this.
“Canvas did not respond to a request for comment.” I wonder how many extra Instructors/TAs we could support if we just got rid of our Canvas service? (To help with all those oral exams we are supposed to be giving now…)
