Alberta’s hybrid health-care plan breaks the spirit—and likely the law—of Canadian Medicare The safeguard Alberta seeks to eliminate prevents doctors from playing both sides at once, which would create a slower, second-class system for people who can’t afford to pay.

Great op-ed clearly explaining the risks of Alberta's physician dual practice proposal and Canada Health Act considerations in the Hill Times by health policy expert @karenpalmeryvr.bsky.social www.hilltimes.com/story/2025/1...

An Examination of Community Laboratory Services (Contract with DynaLIFE) - Office of the Auditor General, Alberta Examination Overview  In late 2019, Alberta Health Services (AHS) began the process to outsource community laboratory services for the provincial healthcare system. This led to a $4.8 billion contract...

Reading through the AB Auditor General's report released yesterday on the AB government's attempt to contract community lab services to a private, for-profit company.

Spoiler: it didn't save money or decrease wait times. It did the opposite.

Excited to be co-author on this study published today in @cmaj.ca looking at pay disparities between physicians based on social identity.

Statement from the Public Health Agency of Canada on Canada’s Measles Elimination Status Following over 12 months of transmission across the country, PAHO confirms Canada's loss of measles elimination status. We are coordinating efforts with provinces and territories to restore the status...

This is disappointing...but we can regain #measles elimination status once transmission associated with the current outbreak is interrupted for at least 12 months.

Make sure you/your family are vaccinated! Information from NS Health: www.nshealth.ca/publi.../inf...

Important research by Fuller et al on the impact precarious/unstable employment of parent(s) can have on child mental health and performance.

The recommendations are key: high-quality employment is essential, ie through employment standards and unionization.

Glad to hear the first caller on CBC Check-Up ask about why the genocide in Gaza was being glossed over/ignored (on this show and and in coverage in genera). Unfortunate that the question was avoided.

Air Canada strike: Union defies back-to-work order. ‘If it means jail, so be it’ CUPE union president Mark Hancock is refusing to obey Ottawa's orders.

Workers defying back-to-work orders shows growing mistrust of a system stacked against them. Govt bias fuels militancy and pushes unions beyond legal labour action. My comments in @thestar.com #canlab #aircanadastrike #aircanadaflightattendants @cupescfp.bsky.social

I'm one of the many people who has had long-planned vacation flights completely thrown off this week...AND I completely support the flight attendants. It's Air Canada that has created this situation through paying low wages and demanding unpaid labour.

Noooo.

Frustrating and maybe not surprising that airline attendants were so quickly prevented from acting on their right to strike.

I support Air Canada airline attendants, a workforce that is majority women, as they fight for a fair wage -- and not having to volunteer their labour.

Good job @ontariosdoctors.bsky.social for taking a step in the right direction.

What we truly need is #Healthcare4All regardless of immigration status. Healthcare providers shouldn't need to decide on who "deserves" health care based on immigration status. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Doctors shouldn't have to choose who "deserves" care. As emergency physician @bernardho.bsky.social said, "This is a health equity issue for Ontario’s most vulnerable."

We need a permanent program that provides #Healthcare4All regardless of immigration status.
