Figures out today show that homelessness in England is soaring, while England lost nearly 4,000 social homes last year.
The Government must deliver more social housing, bring empty homes back into use & unfreeze housing benefit before more people lose their homes.

Some of us are at greater risk of homelessness than others – it’s a fact. Almost 1 in 5 LGBT people experience homelessness.
February is #LBGTHistoryMonth, and we want to shout it loud: all of us have a right to a safe and decent home 🏡
What now? You've seen the families on @itvnews and want to help. You don't want to see anyone, especially children, losing the stability and security that home brings.

In a handful of cases, people and families are being forced to sleep rough or in cars after their local council has failed to provide them with accommodation. Councils are breaking the law by not providing support. [3/4]
Over the past 6 months, 100+ families and pregnant women have come to Crisis for help, particularly across London, Oxford, Croydon and Birmingham. Most have been turned away for support from local councils and are sofa surfing or at immediate risk of losing their home. [2/4]
Today’s harrowing report from @itvnews.bsky.social includes stories of families facing homelessness, failed by their councils and forced to sleep in cars and even on the streets. These are extreme stories, it’s rare – but it is happening.
How did we get here? A thread🧵[1/4] itv.com/news/2026-02...
Today, @itvnews.bsky.social shared stories of families facing the worst forms of homelessness, forced to sleep in cars and on the streets. While thankfully rare, it’s entirely unacceptable.

“There is no better feeling than knowing that you are living, and you have hope, and tomorrow. We need to give people hope. I want someone who is struggling to see that I have gone through bad times, but I am ok, and they can be too.”
This is Crisis member Leonard’s story…
Never have I ever climbed a mountain carrying a scaffold pole.
But this week's supporter stars, Dave and Mark, did!⭐
They climbed Pen Y Fan, the highest mountain in South Wales, each carrying a 21ft scaffold pole and raised £1,226 for Crisis!
Thank you, Dave and Mark!
Can I have a pet? Can my landlord still evict me? We know renters are uncertain about the Renters' Rights Act which becomes law May 1.

Crisis contributed to one of the roundtables mentioned below.
The Everyone In programme had a big impact on rough sleeping in some areas, initially sheltering 35,000 people. But it also highlighted the number of people who were hidden homeless and not counted.
That's still the case today.
In London alone, councils are spending £5m a day on temporary accommodation and support for people experiencing homelessness.
Imagine if that money was spent on housing and helping people avoid homelessness in the first place?

We never stop 💪
We're here providing tailored, dedicated support to help people leave homelessness behind - all year round.
The housing crisis is forcing people into unsafe shelter, such as vans & cars.
Our research shows over 200,000 households across Britain are experiencing ‘hidden homelessness’ e.g. living in vans or sofa surfing. This is an increase of 30% since 2020

The latest Government figures reveal more social homes are being sold or demolished than created.
The Government has promised a new generation of social homes. We back them to the hilt on this ambition but fear they will fail unless urgent action is taken.

We’ll be calling on all parties ahead of the Senedd elections in May to make firm commitments to end homelessness in Wales.

The new law holds the potential to make a big difference to thousands of people and to help drive down high levels of homelessness.
But we won’t stop here.
We now need the next Welsh Government to make sure the new law works well in practice.
A massive thank you to all our supporters, the politicians, professionals and organisations who helped to make this a reality.
But a special thank you to all the people with lived experience of homelessness who bravely shared their experiences to help shape a better future.❤️
It’s official! The Homelessness Bill will now become law! 🥳
Crisis has long been calling for changes to the law on homelessness in Wales and yesterday, the Welsh Parliament voted to make this a reality.
