Though I just remembered that there are some "ice age never happened" people out in the wild, so could also be an offshoot of that. Or any other nonsense, the amount of people who give into conspiratorial thinking is really scary lately.

I wonder if they're also the "dinosaurs aren't real" people or if a new conspiracy theory just dropped

LOL, not far off, as long as it's a really good, high-end laptop. Maybe a gaming pc, depending on a gurdy.
Sadly, I'm yet to meet a gurdy peddling wizard :(

Also, why are hurdy-gurdies so horrifically expensive? I mean, I know why, but still. Why.

In today's episode of misheard lyrics, I refuse to believe that this song does not, in fact, go:
"Magick is a laughing fool, a dance into the dark
A glimpse of hope within a circle... Le chonk"
Who am I to tell musicians they can't sing about les chonks, after all.

"For centuries, scientists and sailors have know that sperm whales hunted the 'giant squid', Architeuthis dux. Whale bodies are scarred with huge sucked marks and gashes from Archituthus. But the battles take place in deep water, far beyond where humans can easily travel…"

- Awesome stuff.

Thank you so much Totemic_tattoo (on IG) for making time for us to give me my very first tattoo. He was so knowledgable and kind, giving the best experience I could have hoped for! Both my partner and I are absolutely thrilled πŸ–€πŸ₯Ή

Luna lately when I take her for a walk(unless she gets taken to the beach or a forest, that is): " no thank you, I'd rather go home and nap"
Luna the moment we get back:
" I have ball. Please throw ball, don't touch ball, the ball, throw it, throw the ball"
Make up your mind, you furry menace.

And also, even if it wasn't, why exactly should I be comforted by the idea that the increasingly racist, xenophobic, bigoted society gleefully embracing fascism isn't currently targeting me? I have the ability to care about people other than me, you know.

Research team Naiomi & Arjan approved coloration direction & gave some suggestions as I refined the paint job. Last steps after this: to add protowhiskers and some fuzz, next!

A little watercolour I’ve been working on, which all got a bit hypnotic for some reason.

Small and intricate pencil drawing of the head and partial neck of a Bactrian camel in profile, facing right. The drawing is photographed with a pencil and a penny, which could obscure about half of the camel's head.

I'm very fond of Bactrian camels.

Actually, instead of whatever they're doing right now, the mod team should focus on the real problem: how to force people to tag their posts about whatever sports thing they have going on at any given moment, so I can mute them in peace.
Also, reality TV.

I'm listening to a song where the chorus goes:
"Twinkle twinkle brittle stars
In this twisted realm you are
Lost above the world so high
Like black holes in the sky(...)"
And I know he means, you know, the actual stars, but I'm stuck imagining a night sky full of sparkly echinoderms.

Today we visited the two Lascaux replicas, words can’t do them justice! πŸ₯ΉπŸ˜ Both were amazing in their own way: the older one felt intimate and sits right by the original cave, while the newer one is stunningly precise thanks to modern scanning. The photos are from the smaller exhibits afterwards.

This little shit has had quite the journey. Some pieces can be easy, but some drag you kicking and screaming the entire way.

I got there. And I'm happy with the end result, but boy am I glad to be done.

The absolute garbage from Colossal continues, this time it's Dodos. I won't link to the article, because Ben Lamm their CEO is quite open about their intentions.

Instead read my sweary takedown of the dire Wolf claims from earlier in the year.

That last line is one of the absolute single scariest things to me and that it was said with such casual happiness is even more disturbing.

Not distressing.

Full tilt disturbing.

I looked at the wrinkles on the necks/jaws of yawning hairless cats to inspire the folds for my Cyonosaurus. There’s no clear fossil evidence for skin texture: what do you do for something that’s not a reptile & not a mammal? I gave it a coarse skin texture w/a stamp I made from a cool pebbly leaf!

This summer I had the pleasure of collaborating w/ researchers Naiomi Cookson & Arjan Mann (Field Museum) to reconstruct a flesh-model bust of Cyonosaurus. After getting to meet the holotype, I started roughing out the skull armature. More of the process to follow!
