This binary also invalidates the experience of “imperfect victims”, folks whose experiences confuse and distress them because a part of their system may have desired the abuse (for so many reasons). It erases conversations about perpetrator trauma and cyclical abuse
this victim/perp binary causes far more harm than repair. many young online people have a carceral drive to see an “offender” erased. Virtually dead. This is not sustainable community practice—there is no real willingness for restoration. Just vindication, vengeance, finality
because of this endemic of learned helplessness im putting together workshops for ppl willing to engage with triggering content while staying grounded and avoiding retraumatization. Im a certified art therapist and with personal experience regarding CSA, grooming, and internet abuse
on another note, let’s remember queer history includes not only the “good wholesome” stuff that makes you proud, but the shame, mistakes, and harm done, with specific regards to racial intersectionality, as well. Revisionism is bad! There is no transformation free of pain
