29.11.2024 08:13 β π 12 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0This yearβs report calls for renewed commitment from the publishing industry in improving the volume and quality of inclusive output, alongside a review of practices and investment.
29.11.2024 08:07 β π 11 π 4 π¬ 1 π 0Picturebooks continue to have the highest proportion of presence across the three text types. This cycle has seen a slight increase with 55% of picturebook titles published in 2023 featuring characters from racially minoritised backgrounds within their casts (52% in 2022).
29.11.2024 08:06 β π 11 π 3 π¬ 1 π 0This is echoed in the presence reported in non-fiction - down from 30% in 2022 to 22% in 2023. This marks the second drop in a row after a sustained increase in the first five reports.
29.11.2024 08:05 β π 9 π 6 π¬ 1 π 0Minoritised presence in fiction is down year on year - from 24% in 2022 to 11% in 2023. Fiction is the text type which has seen much slower growth than non-fiction and picturebooks and these figures represent a significant widening of the gap.
29.11.2024 08:04 β π 12 π 7 π¬ 1 π 0The report shows the number of racially minoritised main characters has dropped by half to 7% in 2023, compared to 14% in 2022.
29.11.2024 08:04 β π 15 π 10 π¬ 1 π 1For the first time in its history, the annual CLPE #ReflectingRealities survey, funded by Arts Council England, reports an overall drop in the percentage of racially minoritised characters featured in published childrenβs books reviewed β from 30% in 2022 to 17% in 2023
