Doing my best to remain hopeful and remember that most people in the world are trying to be and do good (even if misguided or misinformed sometimes), moderating social media use does help with this realisation! Although still grateful for this place and have been upping my positive news feeds.

For years Nigel Farage has banged on about billionaire George Soros influencing the political climate in Britain and the rest of the world.

Now - Farage's Reform is poised to take a rumoured ยฃ100 million from Elon Musk and the right wing media doesn't bat an eyelid.

First AMHP leads meeting yesterday, really lovely to meet other AMHP leads and interesting discussions about section 13 of the MHA and reconsidering it's application in practice. Really looking forward to learning more and future discussions.

Also I do appreciate the irony of wanting to challenge the concept when engagement is what the creator wants, but honestly the concept and associated misinformation seems to be getting ridiculous and other than non engagement I would love to understand better how to combat it.

How right-wing media embrace social media-generated rage bait to drive website traffic

Interesting to reflect on this article as I feel 'rage baiting' continues to invade media and politics with worsening social and psychological impacts? Genuine question, how to combat this? Not saying it's only right wing but it needs challenging, not ignoring.

This has already brought in tons of new members.

Lovely that Bluesky is so engaged and active.

It passes the test. ๐Ÿ™Œ

We can really build community with this.

The Confrontation Effect: Why Online Political โ€œRage Baitโ€ Works So Well This explains a lot about why social media is the way it is.

2/2... of which there seems increasing amounts. I can't help but feel that bots, algorithms, disinformation and some creators including media/news are relying on this more. Often it seems intentional ignorance to invite negative engagement, which apparently works. www.iflscience.com/the-confront...

For my own wellbeing I try to utilise news sites such as the Good News Network to remember some amazing things people can do. However, an increasing amount of memes in my FB feed (despite repeated blocking) with right leaning or seemingly provocative content has me thinking about rage bait 1/2...

2/2 more right leaning as a lot of policies and actions on that end of the spectrum seem to be more detrimental towards vulnerable people in general. Im sure there is a significant amount of issue with propaganda for some but would love to understand wider reasons. Any recommendations to explore?

Hi Mike, really enjoy your posts, I really agree with the concept of constructive and reasonable discussion from varied perspectives. However, as a paramedic and social worker I tend have a somewhat left leaning bubble. I honestly would love to understand why some people gravitate and vote 1/2

Enjoying the discussion and information here, there is a lot in the world which is very understandably worrying and its refreshing to hear many people trying to understand and improve things. I'm all for debate but appreciate reducing the hate. Feeling a smidge optimistic, thanks Bluesky community!

Several heavy-duty trucks are parked in a row on a wet road, under an overcast sky. The trucks, painted in red, yellow, and white, carry various loads including a large yellow construction vehicle on a flatbed trailer. The scene appears to be part of a coordinated operation, with multiple trucks positioned closely together on what seems like a highway or roadside area.

To be fair I am not up to speed on the Scottish law side and has been interesting to hear about differences! I agree as well about the difficulties of the NR using those powers on personal relationships, it is incredibly rare it is used though and they would/should be guided and supported.

Thank you, I will have a look. The Mental Health Bill is being reviewed in England as well so likely changes too, including the nominated person recommendation. Thanks again.

I have seen NR power used once I think but regularly reminded of it on legal updates! I am intrigued to see how the nominated persons amendment works as its not yet in place in England. If you have any links/information around its implementation in Scotland they would be very welcome.

After a brief look seems like the Nearest Relative sections are the same. However I am happy to be corrected. Also I appreciate the 2007 amendments to the act but it didn't really change anything around Nearest Relatives.

I agree there are a lot of misunderstandings and the process is more complex than often realised. However, I just wanted to mention that families (specifically nearest relatives) do have the power to apply for detention. It's not often used and the AMHP usually applies for the detention.

Really interesting to hear it being discussed in a frank and personal manner. Some good comments from Heston about the stigma associations too.

2/2....but I worry sometimes we can't allow ourselves to be unwell/be different/have a bad day (for various reasons including life stressors). Of course diagnosis and medication can help in the right situation and definitely can be part of the solution. Definitely crosses into Mental Health as well.

Reflecting on the chaotic and unpredictable nature of the world. It is easy to see how tempting simple answers are and how loud voices can direct anger and blame, suggesting that 'all we need to do is....'. But life is complex, those offering simple solutions are kidding themselves, or us.
