I keep thinking about this paragraph from the Franklin Foer story in The Atlantic. There's a reason so many presidents avoided attacking Iran.

My spouse and I were just discussing this story.

They're beyond incompetent. Has a historical moment ever been led by people this stupid?

It's evil. They're evil.

A b&w photograph of a street scene at night. It's very dark and you can just make out the give way markings on the road. There are two people walking away from me and a street lamp shining brightly behind a car.

The all encompassing night

March 11 came & went. We were worried about an ice storm and WW3. In the process, we forgot about the National Day of Remembrance for COVID-19, both the patients we lost, but I would also say, the unsung heroes. We think about MDs, but nurses, lab/radiology techs, PT/OT, Pharm kept the system afloat

DOUG FORD: COOL YOUR JETS
Toronto Can Decide the Future of the Island Airport, Thank You Very Much
Doug Ford lost the 2014 mayoral election, and he still can't get over it.
He's always had dumb designs for our waterfront: monorails, ferris wheels, mega-malls, high-end spas, floating convention centres, shrink-flated science centres, half-billion dollar parking lots, and now... a Pearson Airport on the waterfront.
There are ideas people, and there are bad ideas people - and that's Doug Ford.
He's never passed a balanced budget, but taken over school boards who don't make cuts. He oversaw almost a decade of delays to the Eglinton Crosstown. He made our roads deadlier by outlawing speed cameras - over the objections of major municipalities. And now he personally reviews and approves the plans of any city or town that wants to install bike lanes.
Just like all his other bad ideas, his designs for Doug Ford Airport will inevitably make things worse.
My message to Doug is simple: cool your jets, stay in your lane, and let us stay in ours.
Chris Ward13
Toronto Centre
MoIse City Councillor

Councillor Moise with the solid burn: Cool your Jets, Doug Ford! 😂 🔥 Thank you all for reaching out to your elected representatives and inspiring them to stand up for our waterfront! Email your reps now with our petition: win.newmode.net/nojetsto/sav... #topoli #onpoli

Instead, cultivate more meaning moment by moment. “Set the bar low, and accumulate small changes over time,” Burnett says.

In their book, Burnett and Evans identify four key components to “meaning-making”: wonder, flow, coherence and community. It can be quite straightforward to improve upon these, Burnett says.

“These notions that you’ve got to study philosophy, or meditate, or sit on a mountain for a month, or quit your job and do the Eat, Pray, Love thing … you don’t have to do any of that.”

It sounds like an interesting book. I do some of this and it does make day-to-day life more meaningful.

“The meaning of life is a big, philosophical question, and we’re not philosophers,” says Burnett. “But getting more meaning out of life, or living more fully – that, we can help you with.”

That first paragraph describes how I ended up in PR. Yes, clearly I can do it. I have an analytical, cynical brain. But it didn't feel right for very long. And it felt like there was a big piece of me -- a creative piece -- unexplored.

Now I work, creating, with my hands in a medium that I love.

“I was struck by how insular Mr. Poilievre and the Conservative Party was,” former U.S. Ambassador to Canada David Cohen...who had advised Poilievre to engage with Trump, told POLITICO. “They have very little, to no relationships in the United States, or in any other country for that matter.”

Such an important piece of this announcement is there is no new money in the budget for this! It’s just reshuffled underfunding with probably more costs associated with administering the program #onted #onpoli

The Not-the-Mayor-of-Toronto Doug Ford is doing more to change the city's waterfront (for the worse) than any actual mayor in recent history has. He is insulting Torontonians and trampling all sorts of norms and boundaries in the process.

I posted video of former private equity (surprise!) turned DOGE guy Justin Fox the other day. Both of these young men are hard to watch. I think it's a specific personality trait that they have in common.

It's how they did what they did so easily.

Former ‘Canada Tonight’ anchor Travis Dhanraj files human rights complaint against CBC, alleging discrimination, harassment and bullying CBC says it “rejects his version of events” and has not been advised of the filed complaint by the former ‘Canada Tonight’ anchor.

Ran out of room to link the excerpt above. It's from this Star story from September.

“What my client is seeking is damages for past and future wage loss as a result of the discrimination and retaliation he endured from CBC, as well as an order from the Canadian Human Rights Commission that CBC undergo a comprehensive investigation and review of DEI and workplace harassment policies,” said Kathryn Marshall, Dhanraj’s lawyer.

This piece of the whole thing is interesting. Where does his complaint w/the Canadian Human Rights Commission stand? I get what his testimony at the HoC ctte might have been trying to achieve. He's got a right-wing grift going but his CHRC complaint is anathema to most of the people he's courting.

A sandy coloured poodlish dog rests his chin on the armrest of an overstuffed slip-covered chair under a wall of vintage photography. An ottoman supports a stack of books. (Karen Swan. Don't judge. I want to read fiction about Mary Sues in beautiful settings with predictable endings as the world goes to shit.)

Dog days.

Toronto Police Accountability Coalition : Bulletin - Toronto Police Accountability Bulletin No. 163, March 10 , 2026.

The Toronto Police Accountability Bulletin that just came out is really good. I suggest you take a peek, share it around. Especially the stuff about how the police board chair, Shelly Carroll, worked to avoid public input on the budget. Ford is not the only one steamrolling local democracy.

The intangible but powerful quality known as
affective presence is defined as the consistent and
stable feelings that a person tends to provoke with
their interaction partners, and it is a psychological
process related to emotional contagion (Eisenkraft
& Elfenbein, 2010; Madrid et al., 2018; Madrid,
2020). Emotional contagion refers to the
spontaneous spread of emotions. Researchers Noah
Eisenkraft, Ph.D. and Hillary Anger Elfenbein,
Ph.D. describe the importance of affective
presence, particularly positive affective presence,
as one of the primary determinants of what makes
people feel comfortable around another person.

100%.

Poilievre's got negative affective presence. (In the Big Five personality traits, bet he scores very, very low on agreeableness.) There's something off about his energy. It's flinty. Twitchy. His presence is unsettling to many people, especially women.
