I haven't scrolled through all the replies, but I didn't learn until I was in my 50s anyway that the reason for it is that *all* terrestrial animal products were forbidden during Lent, not just meat - so pancakes were a way to use up butter, eggs and milk.

When I was a baby lawyer & doing a lot of traffic and misdemeanor cases, docket calls involved an hour or more of waiting. I started watching football just so I'd have something to talk about w/ other lawyers, many of them former HS players. I was as surprised as anyone to learn I enjoyed watching.

I've been told more than once that's the "man way" of choosing your team when your favorite has been eliminated. The "woman way" (and mine) is that the teams you want most to lose, don't magically become the teams you root for - ever.

Now seeing lawyers take over MN Criminal cases w/no record in PACER (so perhaps the JAGs we've heard about).

I'll continue to "dunk on" them (far too lighthearted a phrase imo), since this sort of language ten years ago might've actually accomplished something. Now they're just reaping what they've sowed and trying to pull those seeds back up out of the ground.

If Dem senators vote to extend the DHS CR again, they are instantly going to lose a tremendous amount of support from their base who have been in wait-and-see mode on this. I can only assume Dem senators considering this have completely lost touch with their voters. Don’t do it.
