The “Why didn't they just leave” argument is awful. He has no support system, he has nowhere else to go. If he did leave he would likely end up homeless or be dragged back. Rei can’t go anywhere either because divorces cost money she doesn’t have.

tanned oboro is a nice headcanon, but people usually use this as a way to sexualize and dehumanize him relentlessly. i’ve seen people yell at fan artists for making him pale. it gets to a point.

there’s a post going on on twitter where someone drew the canon and fanon version of him side by side, claimed that the anime whitewashed him, then call the canon version of him ugly.
