Brent crude prices have hit $70/bbl again, while WTI is back above $65/bbl. NYMEX gasoline back above $2- geopolitical tensions are boosting prices and about to get spicier with seasonality coming into play shortly.

The national average price of gasoline is approaching $3 per gallon, and is now 20 cents higher than a month ago at $2.94/gal today according to GasBuddy data. For now, prices remain 20 cents lower than a year ago.

INDIANA- beware- you'll likely see gas prices cycle/jump in the next few days after MI, OH and FL recently did.

WTI crude oil fetching $64.61/bbl, while WCS fetching $52.01. Meanwhile, the most unwanted hyrdocarbon- gasoline- is fetching a measly $64.42/bbl for refiners in the Plains today.

the discounts now stand at over 40c/gal (vs NYMEX) for the Plains and over 25c/gal for the Great Lakes- retailers the beneficiaries to this winter gasoline clearance sale, but once it's gone- prepare for slingshot!

Wholesale gasoline is $1/gal more in the Bay area today than it is in the Plains states (and fyi, it's not quite the same spec). Less supply with imminent shutdown of Valero's Benicia refinery.

The winter gasoline clearance sale is starting in the Plains states and some of the Great Lakes- discounts (basis) down 6-10c/gal for high RVP 13.5-15psi material, which will need to clear out in the next ~3 weeks

Average diesel prices have jumped double digits in six states over the last week with now 27 states seeing diesel prices over 10 cents higher than a month ago, while 7 are seeing averages up over 25c/gal from a month ago.

The national average price of gasoline inched back up in the last week, as oil prices remain elevated as the U.S. and Iran talk about a potential nuclear deal. Big jumps to average diesel prices due to the cold weather in late January.

BP WHITING: Keeping a close eye on union contract talks at the BP refinery in Whiting, IN, the largest in the region after the 3-year contract expired last Friday. 98% of union workers voted to strike. I don't believe a strike would immediately impact operations at this time.

PADD 1a saw distillate inventories plummet over 20% in the last week as demand surged due to natural gas supply constraints and frigid weather, with PADD 1b falling nearly 12%.

Unsurprisingly, PADD 1 saw a 9.3% drop in distillate inventories last week as frigid temps and natural gas supply halts boosted HO consumption with inventories falling 3.2 million barrels. Refinery utilization also fell 8.4% in PADD 1.
