i'm today yo to hear about the narrative identity concept and it immediately clicked for me: individual memories are apps that run on the os of a hidden internal narrative; traumas can force a new os to be installed and old apps can cease to work. damn no wonder i barely remember a thing pre 2018

a joyful discovery today: prefix sum `sum[l,r]=sum[r]-sum[l]` can be generalized to arbitrary group, some of which are good-enough hashes which can be used in subsequence searching. this is exactly the rabin-karp algorithm, but online materials about it seldom mention group theory at all

you can do ad hoc polymorphism in different languages, but haskell is the first (among which i learnt) to emphasize "class laws" (nothing to do with commies) and use equational reasoning that builds upon those laws

being proficient in #haskell might help you grasp some category theory; it didn't help in my case, but it is tremendously helpful in understanding some other less abstract fields like group theory and linear algebra

a language is woke if it has too many bottoms

i don't disagree with that. though that's surely wishful thinking

big endian radix tree is a much underrated data structure. unless for concurrent use cases where it's unsuitable due to conflicts at the root node, it really should be a no brainer default for many other cases

i just want proper higher order functions with lexical scoping in cmake. that's not a lot to ask you know, come on

i've landed the ghc patch, now ghc-in-browser is tested in ghc ci: gitlab.haskell.org/ghc/ghc/-/tr...

i still check my x following timeline on a daily basis, cause it still contains useful updates. but it's sad that x is now just a monetization engine to convert my interactions to some blue checkmark user's tips. not to say fedi or bsky has no ragebaits, at least they're a bit more genuine

i'll also write up docs for this so you could build your own customized #haskell playground based on ghc api in the browser with your own packages. it'll take a while, stay tuned!
