Mid 80s when I was 7 my family moved from a quiet side street where I could play in the street and go and knock on friends' doors, to a busier cut through road. Massive detrimental effect on me (still managed to walk to school without adults though).
I was on a panel this week at the Royal Society, talking about AI and the future of women in science, and Wendy Hall asked us about the consequences of a future without women working in AI. And my reply was that we don't need to imagine that future. It's here. It's the present.

Just part exchanging my car now and still agog at what some people are paying. You used to be able to get a basic run around for 2 weeks wages, now you'll need 2 months, and so many CHOOSE to get newer, bigger, flashier than they need then cryarse about a couple of quid to park.
