โ€˜An epidemic of sufferingโ€™: Why are conservationists breaking down? In December 2024, Rachel Graham, executive director of the Belize-based marine nonprofit MarAlliance, posted on LinkedIn that she knew โ€œ5 wildlife & conservation scientists who have taken their lives ...

People see conservation as an exciting, romantic field to work in

But it's a tough life watching the places you love, study and fight for being destroyed

NEW ANALYSIS: UK emissions fell 2.4% in 2025 as coal fell to a 400-year low. Incredibly, we used less coal last year than than in 1600, when Queen Elizabeth I was on the throne and Shakespeare was writing Hamlet.

Seems to me that perpetual gas and oil crises might be avoidable if we replaced them with more locally sourced non-depletable resources. There might be other benefits too. Just a thought. ๐Ÿคท

NBC's top climate reporter quits In an exclusive interview, veteran NBC meteorologist Chase Cain opens up about burnout, suppression, and why he's going independent.

Corporate broadcast coverage of climate change fell 35% in the last year, even as Trump systemically dismantled climate policy and billion-dollar disasters rose

The gradual deprioritization led NBC climate reporter Chase Cain to hit a breaking point, and he quit last week

Here's our interview:

๐Ÿšจ Techno-optimism reduces willingness to address climate change ๐Ÿšจ

In a new preprint, @maiensachis.bsky.social, @fdabl.bsky.social, and I examined the causal effect of techno-optimist beliefs on the willingness to contribute to addressing climate change.

Trump has launched an unprecedented assault on the environment. Whereโ€™s the pushback? Climate deniers expected more resistance to the fossil fuel blitz. But Democrats, billionaires and activists have gone silent

"'Democrats in Congress have been silent...There has been no pushback on this,' Morano said."

Why is longtime climate denier Marc Morano is happy that Democrats have stopped talking climate? As I told The Guardian, because it helps the Trump regime. Obviously.

It was great talking to Ellen for this excellent piece in @prospectmagazine.co.uk about climate risk and the threat of AMOC collapse specifically

Essential reading!

Hello? Anybody home?

Climate "hushing" and avoidance has allowed Trump and the fossil industry to destroy decades of effort.

Where is the climate movement? Where are the Democratic politicians?

Vast majorities are concerned about climate change.

Adelaide University cancels literary festival event with UN Gaza investigator Francesca Albanese Festival organisers criticise the university for last-minute booking cancellation of event headlined by special rapporteur for Palestinian territories

Adelaide Uni - Academic freedom, freedom of speech!

Francesca Albanese - Great, let's discuss human rights, war crimes, and genocide.

Adelaide Uni - Oh, not that much freedom. Cancelled, soz.

Genuinely pathetic and embarrassing cowardice.

Report: Flooded Future: Global vulnerability to sea level rise worse than previously understood | Climate Central New elevation data show that by midcentury frequent coastal flooding will rise higher than areas currently home to hundreds of millions of people.

There was already a study in 2019 which showed costal elevation had been overestimated in many regions due to satalite lidar not accurately reading ground level.

The fate of fossil fuel systems in the "mid-transition" I talk with Emily Grubert about the hidden dangers of letting the free market manage the decline of our legacy energy infrastructure.

Today on Volts: for the next few decades, we'll be in the "mid-transition," with clean energy systems growing as FF systems decline. Those FF systems will not decline smoothly -- there will be thresholds, "cliffs," where they suddenly crumble -- so maybe we should, I dunno, plan for it?

40% of US rail freight is also fossil fuels, mostly coal. Wind coal down and you free up a lot of rail resources! Some of which could be converted to fast electric passenger trains, which in countries with modern transport infrastructure are faster than air travel for most trips under 1000 miles.

Over 40% of global shipping by volume exists to move fossil fuels from one place to another.

A huge share of the world's maritime infrastructure has been built around a system that is going to change dramatically as renewable energy and electrification displace fossil fuels.
