STUDY: Despite conventional wisdom that increases in vehicle fuel efficiency results in decreased gasoline consumption, Jevons’ Paradox holds. For every 1 mile per gallon of increased fuel efficiency there’s an associated 1.2 mile increase in vehicle miles travelled.
Better cars = higher emissions.
We really need laws against this sort of thing. Placing bets on everything in society creates massive corruption incentives and warps behaviors.

Anomalies are computed relative to a 1991-2020 baseline using ERA5 data. The second graph is monthly carbon dioxide abundance. The CO2 graph is the Keeling Curve. Current levels are 429 ppm. The third graph is monthly global methane abundance. Current levels are 1946 ppb. The fourth graph is monthly global nitrous oxide abundance. Current levels are 339 ppb. The three greenhouse gases show seasonal cycles and long-term increasing trends using data from NOAA GML. NEW STUDY: Winter downpours are getting heavier in parts of Spain, Portugal and Morocco as the region recovers from a month of relentless storms.
Between mid-January and mid-February nine named storms brought torrential rain hurricane force winds causing major damage and disruption. 1/5
