I was sloppy and misspoke. In looking back at it, I see I was talking about the follow-ups in the piece itself, which to be fair aren’t that bad. My grumpiness was to do with the lack of specifics; but I suspect I was looking for more of my own anger reflected there. Apologies.

Oh, thank you for letting me know. I’ll let her husband, Barrett, know about this and follow up. Much appreciate the heads up.

Hard to pick just one, but CROOKLYN is close to my heart. (Also close to my β€˜hood, so that gets bonus points.)

A superb and fair assessment of what was good and bad about this series, and near-wholly bad about its series editor. Kinda had no idea.

Issues with Clinton aside, she is refreshingly in command of the details and history and speaks with the kind of deep authority that only comes with expertise. On top of which, speaks coherently.

I so miss coherent, competent people in charge.

Ours is a rescue who the rescuer had called Mabben, after the queen of midsummer’s eve or somesuch. Nah, we said; we’ll name after an Arrested Development character. πŸ‘ŒπŸ»

In front of a red wall sits a gray cat with white on its paws, ruff, and nose bridge; has its paws daintily crossed and its eyes almost fully closed.

The world is too often unbearably heartbreaking. In lieu of all that, here is my cat, Maeby. I love her.

Everything is bad, but books are good. Get a book. Read the book. Cherish the book. Finish the book. Tell your friends about the book, and leave a review of the book. Hold the book close. Listen to what it tells you. Do as it commands. Place it on the dread altar and let it guide your every choice.

you have to be fluent in online culture to understand the modern right wing. you have to be extremely online to get it. you need an understanding of what gamergate is. you have to know 4chan. boomers don't get this, no legacy media sources get this, the average trump voter doesn't even get it. these people are on the fringe, but they have infiltrated the government. unfortunately, understanding the grossest underbelly of the internet is now crucial to fully understanding the current moment & the guys at the center of it all. this is literally the stupidest moment in history.

A friend perfectly summed up why legacy media is unequipped to adequately report on this moment/era in history:

Right!

I was speaking as the head of an agency and a former editorial director; I review a lot of contracts these days and have cast my eyes over many hundreds. But they differ in where such a usage falls depending on how gets defined in houseβ€”Macmillan seems to taking a high road in this regard.

The Thin Man is one of the funniest books ever written.

And Red Harvest is flat-out perfect.

Without consulting individual contracts, the publishers may classify the payment as some kind of a license for the use of the book, and then payment to authors would sort out based on subsidiary rights splits in each particular contract.

But only guessing here.
