No Child Left Behind was an initiative under Bush II. It tied federal funding to test results. Civics wasn’t part of the testing, so teaching it had the potential to impair funding by taking classroom time away from topics with $$$ attached. Not as important in higher income school districts

Sigh. Ukraine already has "security guarantees" from when they gave up their nuclear arsenal. IIRC, they gave it to Russia. Don't recall what Putin's phase of power was at the time.

5) Adequate immigration court infrastructure so cases can be processed in a timely fashion. Now there's massive backlogs & people wait for years.
6) Let's go back to INS=Immigration & Naturalization SERVICE, rather than leading with ENFORCEMENT in ICE.

3) No immediate removals to remote holding facilities. Arrestees need to be kept local for family access, representation and due process.
4) No more arrest quotas, since anyone they pick up gets counted as an arrest, even if released the same day & not charged

I called my Rep & both Senators this am. News reported there's a couple weeks to work more on DHS funding, so I offered up my 6 points:
1) No more hiding agents' identities with masks
2) Give people their stuff back (the guy whose phone ended up in resale store, 5 y.o. whose hat they took &c)

Late 70s, there were still usury laws, interest limited to 10, 12%. Maybe varied by state. Then OPEC oil boycott drove up prices inflation was double digits, bypassing usury ceiling. Those laws went away & rates skyrocketed, never to go down again. Wouldn't mind the return of usury laws.
