Acuña and Ohtani hitting leadoff homers on the same game? Damn, that’s fun
Yowch. One time during a crown fitting the dentist accidentally nicked a spot under my tongue and had to stop the procedure until he could stanch the bleeding and give me stitches. It was no damn fun. You have my sympathies.
Oh hell yes.

The kind of album where Lindsey Buckingham sings cokey backing vox on a song co-written by Thomas McGuane, and Jeff Porcaro is credited with playing "Tahitian log drums." The title track, about a US envoy charged with putting out fires in the Middle East, now feels like it's from a parallel earth
The most recent Strong Songs episode is as informative and impassioned as this podcast usually is, but it's also kind of cathartic? I was choked up in the final minutes. strongsongspodcast.com/blogs/episod...
Dominican Republic -- dancing, hugging, whomping baseballs
Italy -- chugging espresso, kissing, whomping baseballs
United States -- gritting teeth, thinking about the troops, leaving runners in scoring position
Good bridge.
Really good, in-depth Albert Brooks interview by @mitchellbeaupre.bsky.social around MODERN ROMANCE at 45. letterboxd.com/journal/albe...
When I interviewed him for the NYT he referred to those years in New York, in what seemed like a way for him to explain that he understood the kind of life I must live. Then I told him I live in Arkansas.
Oh and ICYM, a couple of months ago I wrote about Sheridan’s politics, which from my perspective aren’t so much Red State as they are “daddy knows best.” www.avclub.com/taylor-sheri...
I’m back on the Taylor Sheridan beat for the AVC, reviewing The Madison, a romantic melodrama with gorgeous scenery, a stellar lead performance, and some truly repellant reverse-snobbery. (cosmopolitan = bad, rural = unimpeachable) www.avclub.com/the-madison-...

I would watch those videos. I would also love to play a GAMES magazine picture-quiz inspired by those videos.
My favorite is when "for your consideration" flashes up right when someone on screen is getting naked. (Oh, I'm considering!)
Never forget who Sun didn't trust.
I will say this for the watermarks: My son has no qualms about interrupting anything I'm watching on TV to tell me something, but if I pause a screener and he sees my name and email address on the screen, he actually says, "Oh, are you busy?"
🏀 FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION 🏀
Glad that USA is putting “Clutch Time” in the corner when a game is close and late. Valuable information, well-worth cluttering up the screen.
Oh neat, I see we've moved from using Young Sheldon (a very good show) as the go-to example of popular TV slop to using George & Mandy (a pretty good show).
I've been a Pasquatch fan for years and it's been fun to see him getting a showcase.
I understand why Fox moved the Italy/Mexico game to FS1 and consigned Venezuela/DR to Tubi, but so far the latter game has been far superior. (That is, when my Tubi app isn't lagging and/or crashing.)
That's what I thought, thanks!
Okay, math-minded baseball fans, help me understand something about the WBC. I know if Italy wins, the USA are in. I know if Italy loses, the USA are in if Italy gives up more than 5 runs (I think) to Mexico. So if Italy is leading 5-0, as they are now, does that mean the US just clinched?
Donna complains about this too. One of the first habits she urges her students to break.
In case you missed it it's my self-promoting privilege to note the new Xgau Sez out there. And while I'm at the mic, let me also announce that Carola and I will be appearing IN PERSON at SXSW, where the Xgau biopic The Last Critic will also be featured. robertchristgau.substack.com/p/xgau-sez-m...
Post time change our morning walks begin in pitch darkness, which means when we walk by our favorite woody pond we hear the frogs *making some noise*.
I was fortunate enough to see them three times in college, because they swung by Athens GA on pretty much every yearly tour. All three shows alternated between being utterly transcendent and kind of a bummer, because there were some bad vibes onstage at the time. I suspect that's waned considerably.
