According to reporting, the European Chemicals Agency has sought advice on so-called 'forever chemicals' from a consultancy that works for...the chemicals industry.

We fail to see how this doesn't constitute a huge conflict-of-interest risk.

1/3 Last Friday, as part of our Climate Governance Integrity Programme #CGIP, we hosted a workshop at @umwelthilfe.bsky.social in Berlin – bringing together civil society experts and journalists to exchange insights on #ClimateIntegrity.

Parliament must take responsibility for its own funds and recover any misused funds. It must also investigate whether further rules were breached, and refer any criminal matters to the European Public Prosecutor's Office.

This comes as no surprise, given that the European Parliament has delegated management of finances to political groups (with little to no oversight) who are often embroiled in fraud themselves.

Yet more allegations of the far right misusing EU funds have surfaced. This time, it's about far right groups in the European Parliament circumventing procurement rules to funnel EU cash to friendly businesses and organisations.

EU member states and EU institutions must condemn at highest levels this attempt to eliminate the last traces of independent civil society, and advance the Article 7(1) EU procedure by recommending actions or voting to recognise a serious breach of EU values by Hungary.

The threat to Hungarian civil society is existential. Hungary's new legislative proposal would give the government sweeping and authoritarian powers to punish organisations it deems a threat to national sovereignty.

Committees of inquiry should be reserved for the most egregious cases, warranting the European Parliament to act. We call on the Conference of Presidents to reject this proposal.

Using a parliamentary inquiry committee against civil society organisations in this case would amount to a misuse of a treaty-based parliamentary instrument.

It's previously only been used for sweeping scandals such as Dieselgate, the Panama Papers or the use of Pegasus spyware.
