Doge, crypto and the end of the lol era Running the White House and launching memecoins once seemed so simple β€” more than that, it seemed hilarious

β€˜Was Musk just doing it for the lulz? It wasn’t entirely clear. It was all just too good β€” almost too good to be true, and the funniest thing of all was that it was true.’

@jemima.bsky.social captures the magical realism of Doge

Hi, thanks for sharing this, obviously very aware of it and spoke to a lot of people about it when I was out there. Didn't think it was something I could drop in briefly to the piece and keep on talking about the lions so I didn't mention but I intend to write about this at a later point

Charging elephants and snoozing gorillas: Jemima Kelly’s Ugandan adventure [FREE TO READ] On a tour of little-visited conservation areas, the FT columnist gets up close β€” sometimes a little too close β€” with the wildlife

Went to Uganda, got properly charged at by a herd of forest elephants (terrifying), got inspected by a gorilla, had a lioness named after me (pictured below 😍), slept on the banks of the Nile, and wrote about it all for @ftweekend.com

In print today/online below

Best books of 2025: Roula Khalaf, Jay Rayner and other FT journalists pick their favourites [FREE TO READ] FT editors, columnists and specialists share the titles that have inspired them

If y'all are stuck for Christmas presents this year, consider @ianleslie.bsky.social's "John and Paul: A Love Story in Songs". Such a brilliant and wonderful read, even if you're not a Beatles fan (and you probably will be by the end anyway) - my pick for the year...

In defence of the weird and wonderful Wicked β€˜womance’ [FREE TO READ] It’s all a bit intense but the friendship between Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo moves me

While you all talk (for good reason, admittedly) about the bromance between Trump and Mamdani (or Trump and MbS, or Trump and Elon), might I draw your attention to a truly beautiful friendship that I suspect might last a little longer... the Ariana Grande / Cynthia Erivo WOMANCE

That’s very kind / nice to hear, thank you! And thanks for the link - I’m super interested in this stuff as a big animal lover, I have been wanting to do some kind of story in this area for a while…

That is a very interesting idea, thank you, I’m going to think about it. Though I have often been struck by almost the opposite: the tenderness with which farmers often treat their animals. (I’m a life long - or since 5yo - pescatarian who doesn’t eat octopus so this is not a meateater’s bias…)
