I spent quite a lot of time over the years meditating on Headspace doing a mixture of focused attention, body scanning, and visualisation techniques and have done several retreats and classes in which we were did "mindfulness" meditations... I'd like to try loving kindness meditation too

A lot of people ask whether it's necessary/important to have proper TM lessons, and my answer is yes. It's quite a precise though easy technique and I've needed a bit of steering back on track. I'd also highly recommend 2 books, a wonderful one by David Lynch and one by the head of his foundation:
