There's definitely something being filmed around downtown Victoria this past week.
@rachelgilmore.bsky.social The very necessary follow-up article to your ordeal. Thank you so much for your bravery. We all need to stand strong in the face of tyranny. Thank you for showing us how to do that, even when it's hard.
Well, he's certainly limited his future career options to grifter and podcaster because I can't imagine anyone wanting to hire him after this.
Seems like someone isn't "financially literate" enough to understand cradle to grave economics, the fallacy of constant growth, and the economic consequences of climate change. Someone got stuck in the kindergarten version of "I saw it first, so it's mine" economics.
It seems like OpenAI is going to be held accountable for whatever was in the Tumbler Ridge transcript... I hope it extends to all AIs being held accountable for violent rhetoric. (I assume it's really incriminating, or I don't think AI-booster Evan Solomon would be talking about it.)
Correctly identifying someone's words/actions as bigoted isn't disrespectful or unkind. That's like saying that there shouldn't be consequences for a kid bullying or stealing from the corner store. All actions have consequences, and it's not rude to hold people accountable for their actions.
Identity theft is a pretty big crime...
It's more than stealing; it's exploitation and identity theft. They were using someone's credentials for their own benefit.
A manufactured crisis is in the authoritarian textbook that they seem to be working from.
When backed into a corner, authoritarians will do whatever it takes to hold onto power. Something that may play out in several countries around the globe this year.
For example, Georgia: www.cbc.ca/radio/ideas/...
I'm afraid that one of the reasons for attacking Iran in such a terrible way is to foster the necessary environment for a terrorist attack, thereby creating a "manufactured crisis" in an attempt at power consolidation. 🫣
This is a right-wing talking point from a while ago. (First heard it from someone caught by the right-wing pipeline in 2019).
Pretty sure most of us would like to get rid of all tyrants in positions of power.
Boomers may seem less sexist now, but that's only because they no longer care if their wives are trapped at home. It costs them very little to have equality. This was definitely not the case when they had kids at home.
I've been paying attention to these sorts of surveys for a while. And I suspect that it's a rolling window. The age group most likely to have children is the age group that would prefer traditional gender roles.
It's probably because those roles are the source of conflict in their relationship.
Anyone else forage for confir tips this time of year? I am keeping centered by getting out into nature, and will share a series of recipes based on the flavors of spruce and fir over the next few months. 😀
Just need to finish the brews first!

Pretty sure anyone making trades like this is suffering from a gambling addiction. The rest of us just want to save for retirement and would rather there were more restrictions on the market, not less.
I went through a period of reading vintage mysteries (40s to 60s), and the thing I learned most was that most working people lived in rooming houses. Being able to afford an apartment big enough to have a family was a frequent topic of conversation.
Great! She really is good at providing a ton of info. Lots to think about. Edits to be done!
How about you?
I came to leave this comment as well. Like he's disconnected from the reality of trauma so much that he doesn't mind dwelling on it.
Making Alberta responsible for their own constant demands is a good idea as long as the regulations still apply.
Let them do the paperwork, deal with negotiations, feasibility, etc. Let them manage the consequences of their own talking points.
I'm sure you've seen this. As a Canadian, I think it's key to consider our tech. Boycotting apples from Washington means little if you're still giving US companies all your data.

Yes to both. And I think a bunch of PP voters (because most people vote for the party, not the candidate) were misinformed and caught by his slogans.
My BIL is likely avoiding me b/c he knows I'll point out how axing the tax didn't actually make everything cheaper. 😂
He's on a frighteningly slippery slope. It seems crazy to think he would attack Canada or Mexico. But... it would have seemed crazy for him to take out the leaders of two countries without UN backing. It would have seemed crazy for protesters to be killed. Sweeping tariffs. Cutting health care. Etc.
It does seem to correlate with authoritarianism. Yet, we were very close to electing PP. And as much as "he's changed". He was (and likely remains) someone with authoritarian underpinnings. Not just his affiliation with Harper's IDU, but a lot of his hate-based and anti-journalism rhetoric.
I don't know about you... but I consume Canadian news, not US news. I think it also comes from other rules of courtesy in our culture. We say sorry automatically. We thank our bus drivers and service workers. Our schools teach empathy and critical thinking and offer a high quality of education.
Pretty sure this will be the outcome of the war in Iran as well. 😒
Not dumb. It's 1984-style propaganda. Are you willing to lie and ignore the contradictions to show your party loyalty?
