The stupendous north doorway into the Lady Chapel, #Glastonbury Abbey. 12th century, funded by Henry II. The sculptures show scenes from the Virgin's life (though you would need the eyes of crow to be able to tell that from this snapshot). #AddorableThursday #ChurchCrawling
📷 my own, 2019.

It's like stepping back in time, a stunning place and Church, a great deal of history both in old Winchelsea and new.

Today's font come from C13th St Mary's, Salehurst, Robertsbridge.
You'll see Salamanders around the base, it's thought this font was given by Richard Ist as a thank you offering on his release from captivity in Austria. The Abbot of Robertsbridge having negotiated his release
"It was an honour to see expert collectors taking these coins into their care,"

Good news
2 of 3 "priceless" altar plaques stolen 12 years ago from the crypt of Napoleon Bonaparte III, the last Emperor of France, have been recovered
They were thought to have been lost forever until Derbyshire antiques dealer Paul Gostelow called police

That similarity argues against the suggestion of Dr Freda Anderson that this was not originally a font, but rather a capital from Lewes priory that was later hollowed out (quoted in www.crsbi.ac.uk retrieved 8/4/2013).

We've been to St Anne's Church in Lewes, the font is described as :
Early C12, tub-shaped, covered in a basket-weave pattern with a rope-moulding below and a band of pellets above. It is similar to that at Denton but is more restored.

Isn't this rain awful, so, all things umbrellas, here i am with a rather old Victorian one at @bexhillmuseum.bsky.social Museum.
Now where have I seen one like this before, sadly this one doesn't talk or allow me to fly.
The whole process with regards to detecting/ treasure/PAS/ museums etc is stretched to breaking and not fit for purpose.
Things MUST change, and fast.
