I want to run a ton of oneshots and very mini campaigns

Follow along with this thread each day to meet them all, and cast them in 2026!

Personally I like to run horror where the group feels comfortable enough to make jokes even during tense moments. It's usually a nervous reaction from being scared but it also adds to the comfort and gives more room for the horror to sneak in later

If they don't feel comfortable, either with their fellow players, GM, or themes explored, you haven't given them horror, you've just scared them, they won't have fun, and they won't feel safe at your table anymore

Effective group TTRPG horror sneaks into that comfort but should never break it fully

It's like a puzzle, finding that perfect mix of fears, the right kind of ghost, the perfect emotional core.

The truth of horror is it's the most effective when the players are comfortable when they know they have a safety net to fall back on, it lets them have fun with it, allows them to relish it

That first couple of steps planning a new What Haunts Us session is so fun!

I always start with the Lines and Veils, looking at what people don't want and what to avoid but also what they said they DO want

That way I can start working out what would be the perfect session for those players
