ICYMI: www.hsj.co.uk/comment/do-i...? A super-important qn from @hsjeditor.bsky.social > if they don't or get relegated to just technical commissioning, we lose 10-15 years of progress to help the NHS plug into what actually creates health... (and who will mayors/strategic authorities connect with?)
Child poverty is set to fall by 3 percentage points in 2026-27, primarily due to the two-child limit being abolished.
But in the following years, the child poverty rate will start rising again.
By the end of the decade, the projected rate is just 0.5 percentage points below last year.

4/4. But, it's also going to take much more effort/resources and attention from @nhsengland.bsky.social, DHSC, the rest of government and politicians. That attention is missing at the moment e.g. www.kingsfund.org.uk/insight-and-...
3/4. That means mayors and strategic authorities as much as the NHS and how they connect up; and regional growth for a purpose not just for itself @clesthinkdo.bsky.social @healthfoundation.bsky.social and ourselves, and others, have been thinking about this e.g. cles.org.uk/publications...
2/4. Coupled with the recent HLE data showing a drop to 2011-13 levels = a huge challenge. As @healthfoundation.bsky.social say, if govt is going to deliver it's prevention shift & health mission it needs to think 'regional shift' & it's going to have to come from wider determinants, not healthcare

The government has abandoned plans to delay local elections in 30 areas.
Our devolution team argue that the decision to delay elections was flawed – and reflects a broader challenge for the government's local government reorganisation agenda.

No, I think NHSE fund at the moment, but ONS will pull it's support. Tbh, not sure what that means, assume they're involved in technical delivery. But beyond it's pulling horns in across multiple things, and more to come.

Ta. Obv only scratches surface, deeper stuff to be done with the existing data. CIPFA's work (£ by THF) on better measurement also v good - but couldn't squeeze it in the narrative; or the fairer funding stuff which longer-term should shift distribution if not levels. 1st draft was a medium-read!
