You have a great point about Lace’s lack of character development throughout the game, but I still feel that the surrounding backstory of Pharloom and the Weavers is told brilliantly, once you find the NPCs that will tell it to you and notice the relevant environmental storytelling.

I could definitely understand some criticism for the bloat that may exist in the combat, what with all the gauntlets, but where is the bloat in the narrative? I felt that it was told much clearer than the story of the original game.

Lace definitely didn't have enough interactions to be developed properly, but I'm baffled by your other comments about the narrative. It's disjointed and "bloated" because it's in a huge metroidvania. The previous game's narrative was equally disjointed, except it had even less information.
