Today’s post isn’t just history. It’s a correction.

#StockholmSyndrome was never about “falling in love” with captors. It was about how #Sweden, its police, its politicians, even Olof Palme betrayed its own survivors to protect itself.

Survival was pathologized to cover up state failure.

Just had a doorstep chat with the local Labour team and told them Keir had lost my support before the general election because of the party’s stance on various equalities legislation. And that I couldn’t renew a vote for local Labour given the ongoing attack on trans rights.

Read preprints. Cite preprints. Email people and tell them you loved their preprint. Email people you hated their preprint. Embrace preprints, preprints are good.

Crushing account of what's happening in UK #HE. The most awful part is that nothing in this unbelievable account is unbelievable, reminding us about what has been normalised right across and beyond the UK

Something people in UK need to wake up to is how racism affects whether or not you get a job, whether you will be promoted and how long you will stay promoted.

How does astronomy fit into astrophysics – and does it matter? We need to think more carefully about how we categorise the universe, says Chanda Prescod-Weinstein

My latest column for @newscientist.com is about how categories are made by humans, whether we are talking about how to organize stellar types or human sex identity.

With special mention to @benneholwerda.bsky.social and one of his students OBAFGKM :-) 🧪🔭

Fanta was created so coke could sell soda in nazi Germany around a trade embargo. IBM sold the machines that were used to track and tabulate holocaust victims. Henry Ford inspired Hitler. Big business has always collaborated with fascism. Today's businesses are bastards who are no different.

Gaza war toll likely significantly undercounts deaths, says study An official Palestinian tally of direct deaths in the Israel-Hamas war likely undercounted the number of casualties by 41% through the middle of 2024 as the Gaza Strip's healthcare infrastructure unravelled, according to the study.

A peer-reviewed study published in The Lancet estimates more than 64,000 deaths in Gaza due to traumatic injury between Oct. 7, 2023 and June 30, 2024 — a figure 41% higher than the Gaza Health Ministry’s official count. www.thelancet.com/journals/lan...
