I think the wire report has them saying, "Here, there, everywhere, the Yankee will die." hey were fighting against American -- Huh huh--yes, what is your point? I wanted to —— Are you shocked to learn that there was anti-American sentiment? My point was I wanted to know if you had heard that. I don't remember, no. Of course there was anti-American sentiment there. This was a war being funded by the United States against the people of Nicaragua. People were being killed in that war. Do you think if you had heard that directly, you would have stayed at the rally? I think Sydney, with all due respect, you don't understand a word that I'm saying.

Honestly, I am pretty frustrated that there isn't more discussion, particularly on the right (including the neo-con right) about the *divergence* of US and Israeli interests here.

A democratic Iran, while not a friend, would be a victory for the USA and long-term probably a catastrophe for Israel.

Well part of the problem here is that the pro-Israel lobby here isn't moving enough money around to actually drive decision making. It's a mix of sincerely held ideology, and there being a genuine local minimum in decision making that no one up until now has really wanted to push us away from

The only way to read the conflicting reporting and come away with a consistent story imo is that some factions in the admin wanted Israel to hit first so they didn't have to overcome skepticism from other factions

It's true that Israel can kick off conflicts that harm US interests enough that we get pulled in. It's also true that the US enthusiastically consents to this relationship to the point of moving assets in months before the shooting starts

I don’t think they are playing 5D chess here, most of the senior administration is just in an information ecosystem where “we did it for Israel” is rewarded. You were also part of this ecosystem until a few days ago when you suddenly caught up to the Democratic base.
