I now have multiple sources that say at least one round of NATIONAL ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETINGS will now be announced in the Federal Register.
So the president openly threatens gay people and it’s not a major news story?
Dear all, Because of your help shining light on this all 15 were reinstated today. This is a huge win for science - When We Fight We Win!!!
The circular RNA landscape of human dorsal root ganglia and its association with opioid exposure https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2025.02.26.640459v1
This is just it.
The amount of damage being done to American government will require far more money and resources to fix after Trump and Musk are done with their rampage.
“Since the entire staff was also placed on administrative leave, we have been locked out of our computers, and have no chance to assist in an orderly
transition in our work.” Sounds super efficient and safe
We need to make sure that everyone understands how important science is for EVERYONE not just for scientists...
The Judge said NIH grants for medical research had to be unfrozen; the White House found a way to refreeze it. talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/white...
Tyler Nelson (who we are actively collaborating with at UF in @khannalabuf.bsky.social lab) and Robert Gregg (who used to be at UTD, and whose work I deeply admire) were very brave to speak up for this new article in NY Times: www.nytimes.com/2025/02/22/s...
The National Institutes of Health had to stop considering new grant applications, delaying funding for research into diseases ranging from heart disease and cancer to Alzheimer's and allergies.

Regarding CSR Study Sections:
SROs are apparently being told that their communication to their valued reviewer colleagues must be:
"The xxxx meeting will be rescheduled for a later date, yet to be determined. Thank you for the time you've invested in the reviews. Signed by CSR SRO"
Please be kind
The United States is not a business.
There are no shareholders.
There is no board of directors.
There is no mandate to turn a profit.
The business analogy with government was always a broken one.
Government exists to serve the common good for the people.
Taxes fund the common good.
Well. They found another way to make sure nothing would get reviewed or granted: all study sections are being cancelled one by one. www.csr.nih.gov/RevPanelsAnd...
Not looking good. They found a way to make it happen without anyone noticing. Explained here: thetransmitter.org/funding/fede...
CSR puts an asterisk for study sections not being held as scheduled www.csr.nih.gov/RevPanelsAnd...

I have an R01 diversity for which the study section had disappeared early last week, but it just reappeared today!
NIH Updates
Good news: It appears that at least of the submitted F31 diversity supplements for which the study section had disappeared from eRA commons are reappearing with the original study section. Still uncertain future, but it's a step.

In the few weeks Trump/Musk have been in office, I have felt threatened for being a foreign national and underrepresented minority, grant was removed from study section - no explanation (and won’t be reviewed), and federal support to universities which enables my work is gone. How long will I last?
This is going to have an extremely detrimental impact on universities and US research. Will lead to loss of millions of jobs and will end US research excellence
Don’t believe the Trump administration’s lies. De-funding the NIH, excluding students from specific backgrounds from funding, and excluding research studying women and other underrepresented groups is not “efficient.” It’s destroying science.

Sounds like a broad funding pause until mid February? Any lawyers who can clarify for a scientist?
I think some people hear “grants” and think that without them, scientists and government workers just have less stuff to play with at work. But grants fund salaries for students, academics, researchers, and people who work in all areas of public service.
“Pausing” grants means people don’t eat.
If you are ready to advocate to your representatives (or friends and families) about the economic value of NIH funded research, you can check your state at www.unitedformedicalresearch.org/nih-in-your-...
In shock. This is madness
All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.
I love making puzzles! So relaxing- almost meditative. But I also try to stay away from them because they capture all my attention!! When I start one, I can’t stop!
1. I feel like this is such obvious advice that it gets taken for granted & consequently no one says this to young scientists but READ PAPERS, read all the papers. As you move up in your career you will have less & less time to do this. Read everything that appeals to you not just in your field

Gaby Lopez et al looked at how "rewarding" and "aversive" dopamine signals in the NAc evolve during negative reinforcement learning, with some fascinating results!
Incredible honor to have you as a mentor, Talia! Looking forward for more conversations!
Also CONGRATULATIONS on becoming an associate member!!!
