Question for music engraving folks: When Finale announced their discontinuing around this time last year, what way did most folks decide to go? Dorico? Sibelius? Musescore? (Asking for a MT composer friend who needs to transfer a large piano-vocal score from Finale into a supported platform)

There's this area where dogs can go swimming and they have this adorable "library" of sticks and I literally had tears welling up behind my eyes as I watched their joyful paddling and fetching. It didn't feel appropriate to take pictures of the dogs but there were so many! My glee was overwhelming.

I just walked around Fresh Pond in Cambridge while I waited for my car to get fixed and there were so many dogs and I had to restrain myself from outwardly expressing my glee and it was like having a mild panic attack for 45 minutes. So many dogs! I want to pet them all!!!

Hungarian is a super fun language to sing in. I can't believe I've been afraid to try it for all these years! Grateful for performance opportunities that push me out of my comfort zone. #bartok #folksongs

When your calendar reminder says "Crown Fitting in 5 Minutes" your life is about to be way less glamorous than it might seem.

I'm still reverberating from this concert - it was SO GOOD. I basically wept silently through the entire Copland, pulled myself together during intermission, and then silently wept through the Mendelssohn 😭🥰

It was cleansing on a profound level.

I just witnessed my 70 y/o voice student sing her first ever solo recital and she KILLED. A full hour program of art song in three languages, brilliantly and skillfully delivered. What a rush! We've been working together since September 2024. I couldn't be more proud!

It only took 6 days in the Bay Area for our rental car to have a window smashed. Luckily nothing was in it because we know better. Broad daylight, bustling neighborhood. Grr

When I went back to school for a postgrad degree at 27 the undergrads were agog, exclaiming across the lounge in their big singer voices that I was "soooo old!" and also "not married??" which seemed to mystify them even more than my age.

Milestone Reached:
today was the first day someone replied "they're on your face" when I was freaking out and couldn't find my glasses.

Cooking (when I have ample time for it) is a creative outlet for me. The whole process - from procuring ingredients to prep to clean up (seriously!) puts me in a great headspace. It's similar to the flow state of music practice, particularly when time is open-ended and I'm alone in the kitchen.

Yes! I now want to mainline alllllll of his stuff. I also gotta say, coaching singers on MT rep gives me such deeper insight than just watching the shows. Taking the material apart and putting it back together is such an awesome way to experience it.

I mean of course I knew some of these songs before - Ladies who Lunch, Losing My Mind - and I've sung others - I Remember, Green Finch and Linnet Bird - but the set list for this cabaret has some deeper cuts. The duets from Sunday in the Park with George have my head spinning! (in a good way)

This repertoire was absolutely missing from my conservatory education. I feel like someone is showing me the late Beethoven quartets for the first time.

Spending this whole week coaching an intensive cabaret workshop with about 18 adult vocalists all singing Sondheim solos/duets/trios and I am AGOG

Oof I hear you. I'm currently sorting winter coats and clothes, putting wool hats and scarves in vacuum bags, setting things aside for donations - just to feel a modicum of control

Writing it was a balm for mine! My mind was sort of erased by the news tonight. I had to stress-vacuum our whole apartment before I could come down enough to remember how incredible and beautiful most of today actually was.

Today my 70 y/o student sang through all the rep for her 8/16 song recital (her first ever & she's rocking it) and my 78 y/o student performed her one-woman show about becoming a grandmother, including singing parts we worked on in her lessons. This beauty is what I'm choosing to focus on tonight.
