When they stop bickering and share with each other these real life experiences, it’s actually quite profound.
There is something pretty special in this show, but it’s buried beneath all the other telly-format-showbiz-clickbait stuff that got it commissioned.

These people all have great layers and sometimes we get to find out why they’re all shouty defensive extroverts who want to go on telly… the big, real trauma that’s happened in their lives.

But…
The actual documentary elements are fascinating and the casting is incredible. Some bold characters from across the nation and a few genuine everyday heroes.

The expectancy is that our attention levels are awful. If the show doesn’t think we’re watching then maybe it doesn’t value itself enough, and it clearly thinks very poorly of us, the audience.

Thoughts on #Handcuffed on Channel 4…
On the surface level, yes it’s reality TV, however, Jonathan Ross telling the viewers what the programme is about every 10 minutes is very annoying. I’m on episode 4 and he’s still talking to me like I’ve just walked in.

Crispest skate video I’ve seen in ages. Watch this and you’ll have a good day 😎
Watching #handcuffed… I wonder how much these meltdowns are more about being denied their phones than the people they are trapped with. Withdrawal symptoms kicking in?
Thanks! 🙌
Thaaanks! 🤘 We’re still fundraising for RNIB so please share the film with anyone who you think might find it interesting 😎

The Anfield Wrap is a raucous party in the good seasons and a therapy session in the tough seasons.
This season could still go either way!
I’m a massive fan of everything they do so it was a real pleasure to chat to Neil this week. 🙌
Cheers @knoxharrington.bsky.social @theanfieldwrap.bsky.social
The casting on this sets up some incredible telly. 👀

Does anyone know what this % is in the UK today? 🤔
🚨 It looks like the UK government is gearing up to upend copyright law in favour of AI companies, legalising the theft of their work.
This is despite creatives' huge protests, and despite previous proposals being roundly rejected by the public.
Please spread the word.

Caoimhin Kelleher became a father to twins today — 9 months and 2 days after the parade. 👀
Congratulations to him and his partner! 😁❤️

Good times. #FPL
Wow!! Hope beats hate 💪💚
I actually feel a bit emotional reading the news this morning. 🥲
The effects of AI feel a bit like the effects of Brexit.
‘The discourse’ is actually quite boring. Like we know it’s happening now… resigned to the fact we can’t really stop it…
I just want to project forward 5 years & know what sort of Brexit we’re getting so we can adapt & get on with our lives…
How did I miss this music video the first time round… it’s tragic and beautiful youtu.be/sglbIVO9IQQ?...
This series is brilliantly made. A perfect blend of drama and clarity. We need these stories told as soon as possible, to as many people as possible.

Illegal drugs have been bought, sold and used in the playgrounds where I grew up and where I live now. Under both Labour and Conservative governments.
Whats the point in Labour scaremongering by saying something might happen in the future when it’s already happening under their Government. 🤨
This week saw Professor Michael Wooldridge deliver our Michael Faraday Prize Lecture, exploring the gulf between popular expectations of what AI should be like and the realities of the LLMs that we use today. Watch the full lecture now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CyyL0yDhr7I
Tonight I saw my first Frederick Wiseman film. High School at the Watershed with Bristol Doc Club. Really interesting filmmaking approach. Very thought-provoking.
Feels spooky to read of his passing just a couple of hours later.
Rest in peace. I will learn from your amazing work you left us with.
Phwoahhh. Oh yes. 😍
Meanwhile really good films are being missed because they don’t have a marketing budget.
That’s why I like @letterboxd.social because the crowd-sourced reviews average out, to cut through the marketing noise.
It’s democratic what rises to the top. It’s a free ‘film school’ recommendations engine.
It creates jobs but over time it might turn people away from the cinema. Audiences will become cynical. It’s the Netflix effect hitting cinema. Eventually people will assume things are probably mediocre and over-marketed, so they won’t bother buying tickets.
People are calling the trend “aesthetic trash cinema”. Make it look great visually, sell it hard, but story is crap, it says nothing, it’s only meant to be watched once, in the cinema. Money. Bosh.
Letterboxd reviews of “Wuthering Heights” are making me laugh.
It’s marketed heavily and so it’s still set to make its £59m production costs back in just 3 days.
Last 20 minutes of that was a cracker. Love Brentford when they’re not our opposition 😅
