2-star review of Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey: "honk shoo mimimimimi finding it hard to be offended by a nothingburger of a movie even when it features a beloved childhood character for a lot of people. this has become the obvious thing to do when a property reaches the public domain and it fills the same niche as direct-to-video slashers from the mid-2000s. some of the kills are funny and the pacing is steady, but otherwise nothing particularly stands out about this other than the sheer fact that it exists. it's like if you handed me a packing peanut and called it a meal."

3-star review of Meatball Machine (2005): it's been awhile since i've seen a pure splatter flick, and this tells you what it's all about within the first minute of screentime. lots of cool effects and SFX makeup, alongside gross shots of gore that are also pretty damn fun. the one "crossdresser" scene made me roll my eyes, otherwise i had a fun time with this take on the tragic love story. gory, violent, and oftentimes very fun. nothing deep but definitely entertaining.

15) Meatball Machine (2005, dir. Yudai Yamaguchi & Jun’ichi Yamamoto) - Japanese cyberpunk splatter flick. This is very upfront about what it is, and outside of one scene that made me roll my eyes this is a fun gory B movie. love it when people are mechs piloted by alien parasites

1.5-star review of Quarantine 2: Terminal: They at least tried something different from the first film with this one! It's not a found footage flick, and it takes places in an airport terminal/on a plane! Wow! A man gets a blowjob in the cabin of the airplane rather than joining the mile high club! So original! okay yeah this really isn't it. boring character writing, boilerplate zombie movie at the best of times. wish it had more fun with its premise than it actually did, because there's potential for decent camp in this premise but none of the flavour is there. will probably forget that i watched this in due time

14) Quarantine 2: Terminal (2011, dir. John Pogue) - American zombie horror. Not a remake of [REC]² but its own thing. No longer found footage, but also boilerplate and boring. Still made me feel less mad than Quarantine but I've already forgotten a lot about it.

4-star review of The Substance (2024): this movie is so on the nose about what it's trying to say and does it with gross style. this is a movie made for sickos like me

13) The Substance (2024, dir. Coralie Fargeat) - French/American body horror. really speaks to the feminine desire to hatch another version of yourself out of your back when you hit age 50

Half-star review of Quarantine 2008: Continuing to look through the whole of the [REC]/Quarantine franchise, so I had to watch this while [REC] was still very fresh in my memory. Somehow, despite this being pretty accurate to what happens in [REC], this is a much worse film. Quarantine is a louder movie to start, which is to its detriment. Hearing so much of the ambient sirens and helicopters allows a lot less of the inherent down-to-earth tension that exists in the plot on paper to seep in. The big moments are still here but due to how constantly noisy this film is, they never pack the punch they feel like they should have. The beginning of the film is also a lot skeevier, for no real reason other than to make someone less likable for when they die. Should also mention that the gore in this movie feels focused on in a way it overly wasn't in the original, with extra moments of violence sprinkled in just to add more gore to the film seemingly. This feels like what it is: a quick and dirty remake that doesn't convey what makes the original special. Which is unfortunate, but it also makes the film uninteresting. Darn.

I never played SEvolve, but it did seem neat! I did play old Shadowverse and the recent Shadowverse, but attempting to stay on top of Shadowverse Beyond meta is an absolute exercise in gacha whaling I don't have time for. :(

11) [REC]² (2009, dir. Jaume Balagueró & Paco Plaza) - Spanish found footage zombie horror. Omitted most of the review due to it containing spoilers for the first film (which I'd say actually kicks ass and you should watch), but this is...a bad sequel. Turns something special into something average.
