At least two Florida cities will not hold their annual LGBTQ Pride events Pride organizers in Fort Myers cited funding issues, while those in Tampa also cited the political environment.

Canceling Pride because of "the political environment" is evidence you never understood what Pride was.

It isn't about yielding to the politics of the moment but changing them.

The random stuff I find on my notes app. I guess I typed this but I can't imagine what I was thinking.

I remember history teachers who would suddenly get excited and run pull down a map to help tell a story. You just can't go hard like that on a smart board.

I get sentimental thinking about maps. I love old style classroom maps. Digital classroom displays have displaced the retractable physical map, but I wish I could find a vintage map for my classroom.

I'm not a Marxist, but it is hard not to think about this in terms of labor vs capital dialectics.

Today I'm attending my annual active shooter first aid recertification. Every day I pass a tourniquet box on my way to teach. Just 2 reminders that our society accepts mass shootings as inevitable. Instead of solving the gun crisis, we train teachers to stop the bleeding.

The President sees a bad jobs report, and responds by getting rid of the person in charge of the statistics. This is how America becomes a third-rate country.

Think about what the GOP is revealing with their attempt to suddenly change the Congressional maps: they know their agenda is so unpopular that they're going to lose unless something changes.

Of course, what they should be changing is their policies, not the maps.

11 people injured and suspect in custody after β€˜random’ stabbing in Traverse City Walmart, officials say | CNN Eleven people were injured in a β€œrandom” stabbing by a suspect man with a folding knife-style weapon at a Walmart in Traverse City, Michigan, Saturday, according to the Grand Traverse County sheriff.

Along with the whole Traverse City community, Chasten and I are shaken by the awful and senseless violence at Walmart earlier today. We’re thinking of everyone affected and hoping and praying for speedy recovery for all those who were injured.

A high school social studies teacher stands in a warmly lit classroom, holding a clipboard and looking directly at the viewer with a serious, focused expression. He wears glasses, a green button-down shirt, and khaki pants. Behind him, a chalkboard displays unit topics in World History, U.S. Government, and Economics, including "The Renaissance," "Supply and Demand," and "Constitution." Colorful educational posters on the walls highlight debate structure (Claim, Warrant, Impact), an AI toolkit (Advantages, Limitations, Ethics), civil rights, voting, and economic systems. A cart of laptops and stacks of books suggest a well-resourced, thoughtfully organized learning environment.

My kids know an American flag when they see one – but they don't yet know all that it represents.

When they're old enough, here is what I'm going to tell them:

More competition benefits consumers with lower prices, better service, and more innovative products and services.

The cell phone was able to become ubiquitous because government helped to create more competitive markets. That was a good thing. Let's do that again.

Went into a T-Mobile store to buy a phone and the employee literally made me browse on my own phone and place the order myself while 2 of the employees stood around talking to each other.

50 years ago the government broke up Ma Bell. It's time to bring that energy to today's telecom oligopoly.

Laminated anchor charts? How did I never think of this before?
