so you load a NES core and it becomes like an NES plugged into your TV instantly. Pick the genesis core after and it turns itself into a genesis. well programmed cores are very very hardware accurate and games will run essentially exactly as they did on original hardware

so an AND gate can become an OR gate things like that. the idea with the mister is that you can plug it into a TV and select a console/arcade core much like retroarch and the fpga chip will reprogram itself to have many of the same logic circuits as the original hardware

most things you see like cpus and gpus are built with fixed logic gates that can only do one thing (comparison, adding/subtracting, various types of bit manipulation). fpga circuits are Field Programmable which means they’re more general and can be reprogrammed On The Field over and over
