A quiet day in the studio: Lottie, our brown spaniel, looking out the big windows of the hillside cabin that is my work space. I'm at my desk nearby. The air is thick with the particular silence that comes just before the rain.
“When you are quiet, the silence blows against your mind and etches away everything that is soft and unimportant. What is left is what is real: pure awareness and the very hardest questions.” - Kathleen Dean Moore (from Earth's Wild Music)

Americans have really got to unlearn the propagandist indoctrination that socialism is bad.
It means that everyone has what they need, resources are shared, and we care for the earth & those around us.
We've been taught to hate it so capitalists can keep exploiting us and working us to death.
If you’re an elected Democrat (rightly) complaining about the GOP kicking 17 million people off of Medicaid, now is a good and credible time to critique the entire broken work-based non-universal US healthcare system. Now is the time to call for universal healthcare, for Medicare for All.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.
It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.
I am grieving the barbarism that is going to unfurl from all this. People are going to die. Livelihoods gone. All to feed a corrupt kleptocracy.
I see every day up close how different it is from the first time around. There are no guardrails. A disaster. I’m sorry we have to live through this.
Every move this administration makes is a lesson in critical race theory. So many Americans would never even know that these horrors existed if they weren’t dredging them up and re-enacting them in their twisted plans!

this is the level of funding where all the possibilities for American politics that have been described as hyperbolic over the past decades - the comparisons to Nazi Germany and other nightmares of the 20th century - become logistically possible and politically likely

Yesterday may have been the worst news for the preservation of democracy under Trump yet. Also the S&P 500 hit a record high.
Wanting an analog for understanding, I looked up the performance of the German stock market from 1930–1945.
Re: the crisis at UVA. The world notices when a US president connives with local Republican politicians & wealthy MAGA donors to force an American university president out of office. They know that it means very bad things for this country as a whole. 👇🏽
