Here's my latest! What it looks like to be on CBC's blacklist. (With @wickdchiq.bsky.social and so many others).

How is a subscription to a journalist's substack meaningfully different than a subscription to the Toronto Star or Globe and Mail?
Citizens' Services Minister Diana Gibson says proposed changes to the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act will improve how the FOI system functions
Her predecessor said the same thing while defending new filing fees for FOI requests
Spoiler alert: the system got worse #bcpoli
Edmonton police Chief Warren Driechel travelled to Israel in February to meet with local Israeli police leaders, he confirmed in an exclusive interview with CityNews late Tuesday afternoon. More on his comments and reaction tomorrow. #yeg #Edmonton youtu.be/iyG-hngeJgE?...
NEW: I recount my saga of trying to get official comment from the Canadian government as an independent journalist.

Both the mayor AND a city councillor repeated this lie, if I'm getting the story straight
Sean Orr has filed legal action against Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim for saying to media without evidence that Orr was dealing drugs on Christmas Day
lmao most of us make this over the course of a decade
😭
hey is the love and beauty we put into the world enough to outweigh the evil of those in power? asking for a friend
post-conference exhaustion/jet lag/daylight savings time triple threat
The Tyee is proud to have published this important investigation by @rachelgilmore.bsky.social. We condemn this egregious harassment of a journalist for doing her job, and have offered support as she deals with this disturbing situation.
SAYS POLICE UNION HEAD
I love this 1940s ad for a holiday at Qualicum Beach. With war time restrictions on gas, rubber, metals, etc, staying on the Island and taking the train was a great option.
Anyway, we don’t have a train anymore.
this is not an amount of money any individual or household should be able to have and we have to abolish both billionaires as a group and the economic system that makes them possible
I've been told that Ken Sim told his team that a stranger waived a physical photo at him during a Chinatown event and falsely claimed that it was Orr dealing drugs on Christmas Day.
The mayor doesn't remember the specific contents or style of the photo, and can't remember who showed it to him.
nor is the five day work week!
Sim abruptly leaves after three questions, not answering who gave him the photo or if he will post an apology on WeChat, saying saying that’s all the time he has.
A question is asked of a member of the mayors’ office, who says “send us an email” and leaves.
“What a farce,” says someone.
All I can think about is Jeff Bezos saying that he slashed jobs at the Washington Post — including those of foreign correspondents in the Middle East — based on "the data," and a few weeks later a whole war breaks out in the Middle East that these laid off folks would have covered as true experts.
Prime Minister Mark Carney cancelled what would have been his first press conference since his India trip began 5 days ago with his office citing lengthy meetings in New Delhi that have strained his schedule.
So far he has not taken 1 question from Canadian journalists on a trip that began Feb. 26.
Internet connectivity in Iran was never fully restored after the January protests, but is once again non-existent following US-Israel strikes
just love that every single fucking ad on crave is for the armed forces
so where does the next generation of talent come from? who are the young journalists, and how are they paid? every career incentive, both economic and prestige-wise, now points to the olivia nuzzi route
Carney backing regime change by a guy who keeps threatening to annex his country, suicide rightism has nothing on suicide neoliberalism
Carney's Davos speech appears to be the coup de grâce in a very effective PR campaign executed over the last few days. It's catalyzed the illusion that Canada's approach to foreign policy has fundamentally changed. It has also served as a rearguard action to cement the Liberals domestic support.
To this I'd add that Carney isn't just responding to Trump; he's showing the next US president -- Democratic or Republican -- that Canada, or at least Carney's Canada, has no red lines, no principles worth defending, and no guts for a real fight if push comes to shove (and it will).
This is the statement the Canadian government releases while Israel and the US bomb schools.

I can't fucking believe we're doing this again.
The precise relationship btw US imperial interests and Israeli territorial expansion and regional hegemony is often complex and then, sometimes it’s v clear
also to be clear the relationship between Athena and Juicy is beautiful, queer family is a gift
