β€œThe geographies of the information research department”

Enjoyed this β€œcritical geographical analysis” of British covert operations

And there’s me thinking that geography was just oxbow lakes and erosion!

Oh turns out it’s on preorder.

Loving the blurbs from early readers:

β€œOften laugh out loud”;

Fun, fascinating and absurd;
β€œSpy thrillers have nothing on Fakers”

Can’t wait to share it!

Enjoyed this study on anglocentrism in covert action scholarship. It says I’m wrong merely to point to an evidence bias. Shame it didn’t come out before we did the below πŸ‘‡

Ha I don’t think I’ve ever been called racy! (and would never be so arrogant as to assume reference to me). I do have some thoughts though…

β€œThere would be no embellishments or the deployment of β€˜artistic licence’ to make some stories a racier read: a current, worrying trend in the intelligence historiography we see in our bookstores today” - who’s that pop aimed at???

Is the exact vibe I was going for!

It’s nonfiction history but I was trying something new and wrote it sort of like a novel. So much fun

The original book was by lashmar and Oliver (below). I have a new book coming out on it in May with OUP. Carlton House Terrace features prominently (i remember going inside a few years back for a BA thing and got v excited!) www.amazon.co.uk/Britains-Sec...

I thought 10-11 Carlton House Terrace was the home of the IRD. The most secret unit was in the attic. It then all moved to offices on the river in mid1960s.

Fantastic! Do we get to go in the attic rooms where, in the late 1950s / early 1960s, the information research department’s top secret team of forgers and fakers worked on black propaganda?? Do we get to see what was once Hans Welser’s office, or has it all long since been remodelled?
