Agree with the sentiment, but I think it's actually more dramatic than that.

Labour have effectively taken the Tories' place, and basically killed them off as a party in the process.

Reform, on the other hand, represents something far more dangerous that we've not seen before.

Just (finally) finished reading How The Railways Will Fix The Future by @garethdennis.uk whilst aboard a very crowded 2 car 168 all the way from Birmingham to London!

The book itself is absolutely tremendous so I’d highly recommend it; do make sure to get yourself a copy if you haven’t already!

HS2 ABANDONS Platform Edge Doors As It Moves To Mixed Fleet Of Trains
YouTube video by Network News HS2 ABANDONS Platform Edge Doors As It Moves To Mixed Fleet Of Trains

New Video!

In yet another blow the HS2 project, it seem that the HS2 rail line will no longer be using platform edge doors, but on the bright side, it is looking at longer trains to avoid a reduction in capacity north of Birmingham:

A diagram from the Integrated Rail Plan showing the "potential wider network" which includes a new line between Huddersfield and Bradford as well as upgrades to the route from Manchester to Sheffield.

The cost of these interventions is estimated at Β£25bn and the caption beneath the image reads:

Do you discuss the potential for a Huddersfield - Bradford line, as that seems to be the most likely long-term outcome at this stage?

I think it's more likely they're talking about a mixed fleet of high speed trains, so some will be 200m long, and some will be ~250m for services to Manchester/Glasgow

Funnily enough, I know a thing or two about real free speech, and when it's been restricted.

Getting sacked for raising safety concerns: free speech issue.

Getting arrested for inciting violence against trans people and their allies: not a free speech issue.

Police arrest 474 people at protest over Palestine Action ban in London
Number of arrests was highest recorded in relation to single operation in at least past decade, according to Met police.

More than 450 people have been arrested in central London at the largest demonstration relating to Palestine Action since the group was proscribed as a terrorist organisation.

On Saturday night, the Metropolitan police said: β€œParliament Square and Whitehall are clear. As of 9pm, 466 people had been arrested for showing support for Palestine Action.

β€œThere were a further eight arrests for other offences including five assaults on officers.”

The Met said the total of 474 was the most arrests it had made related to a single operation in at least the past decade.
