Selective Service System (mentioned below) had a huge impact on me when I first watched it.

Made by SF State students, it documents the lengths some young people went to avoid the draft, the violence of those (these) times, and the way wars makes losers of us all.

I pretty much think the semi-apocryphal Truffaut truism that "it is impossible to make an anti-war film" is correct when it comes to hollywood narrative cinema.

However, it is 100% possible to make an anti-war experimental film. Time to tap back in at the cinephile factory, friends.

The Anton Jager Hyperpolitics cover design works and I like it, but that book jacket style cycle is now complete

It appears that a Polymarket account called "Magamyman" made $515,000 in a single day betting on last night's U.S. strike on Iran, with the first trade placed 71 minutes before the news broke publicly.

I’m very selective on gigs as I won’t want to end up in front of a crowd of people who just want to hear β€œYour Woman” fifteen times.

Also, I will not work with Tories, I much prefer gigging for co-ops / anarchists / communists and I want shows to be all ages with good accessibility for everyone. As you may expect, this kind of narrows down the gigs I do, as I turn around 90% down. My ideal tour would be me and my MPC and guitar just doing a load of gigs in small rooms to maybe thirty or forty people. I have zero desire to do the large rock band thing of squinting out from a high stage at a bunch of people you can’t see.

Black and white photo of Jyoti Mishra, aka the musician known as White Town - sitting in front of a keyboard (or a synthesizer... idk). He is South Asian, with a shaved head, glasses, a Russell hoodie, and a smile.

Pop culture shock of my life last year, as a 90s kid, was to find out that the guy behind White Town (of "I could never be your woman" fame) is a British Indian communist straghtedger from Darby whose music was an attempt to combine bedroom pop and revolutionary theory

The posters who act like it's their job to evangelize AI and get everyone else on board come hell or high water are similar to (but worse than) the people who do ayahuasca and come back convinced it's their job to evangelize mother aya to the nonbelievers. Please! mind your own business.

@nosilverv posts "And you've engineered stakes out of your life. Remote work, flexible schedule, relationship that's stable enough to coast in, no boss, no deadlines that actually bite, no one depending on you showing up. You can do whatever you want, which means nothing you do really counts.". @cid_boi asks "Banger, what are you quoting from"? and @nosilverv responds "Le Claude"

Ugh Vic Chesnutt is truly the final boss of boyfriend music.

After years of aural waterboarding i've come to like Songs: Ohia and love Red House Painters and tolerate Silver Jews but i STILL HATE vic chestnutt - irritating little creep with horrible lyrics

All these TPUSA dorks yelling "you'd never hear these lyrics at the superbowl!!!" (as kid rock sings about the bible) are acting as if the Superbowl isn't an innately propagandist pro-military pro-christian pro-america spectacle. 30 mins of Bad Bunny doesn't change this!!

Really funny how Instrument Serif and related fonts have made a comeback in a way that is vaguely reactionary-coded (healthmaxxxing, retvrn purity stuff) ... well and openly fascistic stuff too I guess!!
