and that's why i love talking about sonic, unlike other fanbases there's no concensus so you can have actual contrarian discussions without people getting defensive about their favourite games.

just makes me want the game to only use the act 2 design even if it is objectively good design

idk from generations, forces and the generic iconography in lost world i was done with the nostalgia before the game even came out. being an anniversary game don't work when every games an anniversary lol

honestly; mirage saloon, press factory, studio opolis.
i adore the original stages and the act 2 twists on old ones are great fun as well from chemical plants bouncing platforms to flying batteries magnet shield alternative paths.

can i get the design on introducing act 1 to twist it in 2 but damn-

honestly i'd say highly underrated noting how many people refuse to engage with the core mechanic of alternative paths because they'd have to replay the first level, it'd be like saying undertale is bad because ruins is identical in pacifist and geno which is like, yeah gameplay decides your route.

i haven't played that game in years but yeah the story and soundtrack are a hard carry for that game, being perfectly honest the gunplay in shadow the hedgehog was much more competant than the sword waggles in bk.

oh also the weird turning mechanics in the actual special stages where if you want to turn sharply you have to jump which drifts you upon landing and the bouncy walls being a 2D texture which is often coloured to match the ground, legit was the way i found out i was hard of sight lmao

controversial opinion but mania is pretty meh to me, boss fights are too gimmicky, sonic 3's checkpoint minigames which gave boosts to the current playthrough are replaced with spheres and the act 1's of returning stages are near identical, just makes me wanna go play the original trilogy tbh

and honestly my favourite era was by far the early 2000's, people shat on the games for being too experimental but for me it made each game a unique experience and the handheld games had the consistency people craved anywho.
