Very tense in Istanbul tonight: police tried to prevent CHP lawmakers and citizens from entering the CHP (via Halk TV). Incredibly worrying that police and ordinary citizens brought against each other like this.

Members of the main opposition party in Turkey, whose presidential candidate and dozens of mayors are in prison, cannot enter their own party building in Istanbul because tomorrow (Monday) the Istanbul branch of the party'll be taken over by a trustee appointed by the regime. Oligarchy in action!

Riot police have been deployed to the Istanbul headquarters of Turkey's main opposition and roads around the building blocked as party members rally there against a court's suspension of its local leadership in what they see as the 'judiciary being used as a political weapon'.

Meanwhile in Turkey, competitive authoritarianism is slowly but surely shedding its "competitive" aspect and moving toward full "authoritarianism."
