An illustrated book cover of "The Pursuit of Love" featuring elegant, vintage-styled characters dancing. The scene includes a couple in formal attire, a fashionable woman with a bob haircut, a black hunting dog wearing a decorative collar, and a variety of decorative elements like palms, flowers, colorful lanterns and hunting trophies.
And here’s the cover. Being a Folio it is also beautifully printed and illustrated.

A Folio Edition of ‘Pursuit of Love’ I got while on holiday in the spring. It’s perfect bedtime reading, shortish, self-contained chapters. The Mitfordese does slowly melt into your brain mind…

Thing is it *is* better - but you need to have things in just the right place. Looking at your frames you’ll probably get on better because the close area can be bigger. My lenses are the smallest I could get away with, so I don’t have much leeway with where I have to hold things to read.

I’m still struggling to adjust a year on, but I am squinting at things or putting them to my nose with glasses off less than I was… I think light levels and contrast are the main problems still.

We watched all the animated movies in order that were on D+ (obvs no Song of the South) and I think the only one we gave up on was Pete’s Dragon. I have a soft spot for the late-60s through mid-80s era (i.e. post Golden Age and pre-Renaissance). The Black Cauldron is criminally under-rated imo.

We did get one young man buy t’hubby’s book at a school Christmas Fair saying, as he handed over his fiver, ‘I don’t really read, but I like to support local authors’. 12 going on 50…

T’hubby has been asked if he’d go into schools to talk about his books to show that writing isn’t just ‘for girls’. It wouldn’t be something he’d be comfortable with, so we’ve not pursued it. I don’t know how reading/writing fiction has become gendered, but it really seems it has :/

Today’s #VinylFriday is Mixed Up by #TheCure. I’ve always loved The Cure’s 12” mixes - they’ve never been afraid to give the remixers a free hand, as well as extended cuts that just stretch out the original vibe. A long time favourite.

We’ve been recording t’hubby reading excerpts from his books for the last year or so. I’ve started zhooshing them up for YouTube and the latest has come out very well. It’s a bit long, but hopefully will draw you in until the end. #IndieAuthor #FolkTales #Booksky

Specifically I got the digital of ‘Kill The Wolf’ anniversary release (I have the original green vinyl - which I didn’t get from Bandcamp, so didn’t have a digital code) and the 4 CD of ‘Gather Up’.

What the hell - another #VinylFriday. This time the grey vinyl reissue of one of my favourite albums. Doves swoon-some debut ‘Lost Souls’.

So for #BandCampFriday I’ve bought two Matt Berry albums and @billie-ray-martin.bsky.social’s labour-of-love release of the ‘lost’ Electribe 101 album Electribal Soul.

Another Gwenno album for #VinylFriday (and #BandCampFriday). I had a great time at the recent listening parties she hosted and couldn’t resist the 10 year anniversary clear vinyl release of her Welsh Psychedelic Pop debut ‘Y Dydd Olaf’ (‘The Last Day’ in English).

I think there’s an eagerness to give biometric data away to an emerging unregulated tech industry, which makes me very uneasy.
I won’t be age verifying, but I’ll find another way…

A #VinylWednesday this week. The new lovely new release from #Gwenno, Utopia, on pink vinyl. Her psychedelic indie pop is mainly in English this time, which adds a new element. There are some very Marr-esque guitars all over the album - ‘Dancing On Volcanos’ owes a fair bit to The Smiths.

A medieval style dragon tattooed on an arm. The dragon is red and gold, baring a green shield with a black triskelion emblazoned on it. The triskelion was my first tattoo.
Another dragon tattoo. This one is stylised, not unlike a chalk hill figure, tattooed in black. This was designed for me by a friend.
A tattoo of a tangle of dragons on a leg. It has become a bit indistinct over time, and wasn’t done especially well in the first place!
The word Treoth (as in betrothed) written in Anglo-Saxon runes tattooed in red on a leg. This was done for our wedding. My husband has the word engrave on his wedding ring. I have the word Wyn (in runes) engraved on my ring, and he has it similarly tattooed on his leg.
That’s great!
Here’s some not very good snaps of mine!

You know an evening has been a success when you are asked for the recipes (@nigella.bsky.social’s butterflied leg of lamb with balsamic, garlic and bay followed by shop bought tart tatin with her salted caramel ice cream). Absolutely delicious and both recipes are incredibly easy!

It strikes me that ’Reckless Rachel’ approach to financial regulation is basically asking the builders that trashed your home to fix it and lowering building regs to help them do it, then wondering why your house catches on fire when you turn on a light… #RecklessRachel #UkPol
