Text: A BOYFRIEND, IF YOU CAN KEEP HIM: A Contemporary Romance
Background: shelves full of old-fashioned books.
Text: After losing out on her dream job as a research librarian at the Library of Congress, Kathleen Gallagher is done chasing things. Not jobs, not boyfriends, not Beyoncé tickets. So when her meddling mentor lands her a consulting job hunting the missing volumes from the Library of Congress’s original collection, Kathleen takes the gig only to avoid disappointing him yet again. Never mind his hints that this might be her ticket out of self-imposed exile at a boring industry job in Chicago; Kathleen plans to work just hard enough to prove that the books are lost for good.
Across the National Mall at the Library of Congress’s archival arch-rival, Smithsonian historian Dr. Grant Ordoñez vows to find the missing books first. As the eldest son of a mixed-status immigrant family, Grant is used to playing catch-up. He’s confident he can outpace an entitled librarian who doesn’t even have a PhD and seems immune to the concept of actual work.
But when Grant’s interference forces Kathleen to actually do her job, banter between the stacks and late nights together at the National Archives lead to a romance better than the revenge Grant was chasing. Meanwhile, Kathleen confronts the life she could have had if she hadn’t given up on her dream job—and her growing feelings for the wry, loyal historian who shows her. With each book found bringing Kathleen’s contract in D.C. closer to an end, Kathleen must decide if leaving her comfortable exile for a second shot at her dream is worth risking another humiliating failure and whether opening her heart to Grant is worth the risk he could break it.
Background: shelves full of old-fashioned books.
Text: I’m halfway across the room when Grant speaks again. “Hey Kathleen, how tall are you?”
“Five foot six,” I say automatically. Then I stop and turn around. “Wait, why? How tall are you?”
“Five-eleven,” he says.
“If you were actually five-eleven, you’d round up to six feet,” I challenge.
“That’s small-minded of you.” He lowers his laptop screen. There’s a smile playing around his mouth. “I prefer to play the long game and round down to five-ten. Make the other five-elevens sweat a little.”
I laugh. “That’s surprisingly diabolical. And you still haven’t answered my question.”
Grant looks pointedly at the books in my arms and thumbs something into his phone. “I just want to be sure I’m giving the U.S. Marshals an accurate description of the midnight book thief.”
“Oh my god, it’s not even six o’clock in the evening.”
He peers around the desk hutch at me. “‘But wearing high heels, so… five foot nine?”

A collage of photos: row 1 (l-r): the interior of Yale University’s Sterling Memorial Library, showing a Gothic cathedral-like entrance; a classic red Vermont farmhouse in winter, covered in snow, nestled among bare trees; a woman silhouetted against a frosted window, while sunlight spills through the window; row 2 (l-r): two hands reaching for each other in low lighting against a black background; a dark-haired woman floating face upwards in water, surrounded by white flowers, her eyes open; Spilled glass candle with wax still aflame, flickering against a black backdrop; row 3 (l-r): Sunlight streaming through a quiet pine forest, illuminating a narrow dirt path; black and white photo of a person gripping the back of another person’s head from behind ; a man’s hand clasping a woman’s hand showing her wedding ring, with a snow-covered fir tree in the background; row 4 (l-r): three antique keys on twine; dark green leaves, covered in dew; the title of the novel, “This Ends Now” written on a scrap of spiral-bound lined notepaper.

Blurb
One for Sorrow, Two for Joy, Three for a Girl, Four for a Boy…
Ryn is a small-town thief who has a knack for being overconfident in her abilities, but by day she’s a beloved tavern girl with the liver of steel that carries her reputation. On her most daring break-in yet, she runs face first into the kingdom’s last living assassin, Seven, and he’s just offered her the opportunity of a century: a ticket of attendance to the King’s upcoming courtship gathering. It’s a partnership she’d be a fool to take up, but with her family scattered across the sea after the draft, a fool is what she’ll need to be to find them.
Five for Silver, Six for Gold…
Seven is set on his own plans, however much they interfere with hers, and they won’t be the only ones in attendance with hidden agendas. Once whispers of the past begin to resurface and nobles begin dying around them, it’s survival of the cunning and silver-tongued. The castle is under lockdown, and all bets for the crown are placed on their capture.
Seven for a Secret, Never to Be Told.

The Atmosphere:
There is a collage of pictures on a parchment paper. Picture one is of a boy crouched down with his head covered as a fire burns in the background. Picture two is of two hands tied to a pole on the beach. Picture three shows a person wrapping up the wounded hand of another. Picture four shows an old piece of parchment with unreadable script. Picture five is of an island with a castle and small village surrounding it. Picture six is of a girl on the run with a dagger in hand. Picture seven shows a bottle of alcohol. The image, made with free non-AI stock pictures, shows a horror-comedy novel cover titled "DAD BODIES." The top of the cover reads "THE GAME JUST TOOK A DAD TURN" with "DAD" in a different color.
The background features a haunted house with multiple towers and illuminated windows against a dark backdrop. At the center is a 20-sided die (D20) used in tabletop role-playing games like Dungeons & Dragons, with visible numbers including 1, 7, 13, and 19. The die is surrounded by red blood splatter effects.
At the bottom of the cover are six men with expressions of terror and shock. One man is wearing a white shirt over his head. These men are the dads referenced in the title.
CABIN IN THE WOODS × JOHN DIES AT THE END

So when a disgraced movie mogul taps her for a vanity project tracking down missing volumes from the Library of Congress’s original collection, Kathleen only accepts the gig to appease her well-meaning mentor. Never mind his hints that this might be her chance to escape academic exile.
Across the National Mall at the Library of Congress’s archival arch-rival, Smithsonian historian Dr. Grant Ordoñez vows to get revenge on the Hollywood mogul who stalled his sister’s promising acting career by finding the missing books first. As they chase leads around the Beltway and back, their frigid rivalry turns into a love affair steamier than a summer in the nation’s capital.
