Let's just say I don't need to feel my pulse to count my heart rate. I can hear it inside my head. When I woke up in the ICU post op the first thing I did is to listen for my tick. I knew I was alive.

I was never athletic because I had my first OHS when I was 12. But I had much more energy post valve replacement. I walk, cycle and am probably more active than most people my age. The valve should not be a barrier to your running. Quite the opposite...

It was loud at first, but it gradually fades into the background. I tend to use white noise for sleep and the click is probably one of the reasons. Occasionally I would have people ask about the click, not realizing it's me. Warfarin is no problem. Test once per month in a lab.

I had mechanical aortic valve replacement in 1989. So far so good. 67 years old. Let me know if you have questions.

Oil futures open above $100 US Monday morning. Up 65% on the week. That’s as big a rise as after the Ukraine invasion in 2022, that set off peak global inflation. And there’s much more to come this time. My take on how to limit the damage: www.pressreader.com/canada/toron... #cdnecon #canlab

Sometime read the letter Eisenhower drafted as his response if the Normandy landings failed. He took full responsibility. Unheard of today.

I’m sorry, doing this in a baseball cap sold by your campaign store is deliberately disrespecting the dead.

Elizabeth Renzetti: We’re gambling with men’s health. Here’s why that’s bad for all of us The percentage of men reporting “very good” or “excellent” mental health has fallen from 70 per cent 52 per cent in a decade

Gambling is being rebranded as “prediction markets” or “gaming." There are clear losers in the explosion of micro-gambling: Young men and boys, whose health is being harmed by having gambling dens on their phones, by @lizrenzetti.bsky.social www.thestar.com/opinion/cont... via @thestar.com

False Profits | Reports False Profits is a new research initiative from the Centre for Future Work to document the economic harms of fossil fuel pricing, profits, and practices.

The 2022 price spike (when Russia invaded Ukraine, a country that produces no oil) cost Canadian consumers $200b over 3 years ($12,000 per household). It enriched oil companies ($150b after-tax profit in Canada alone). We shouldn't do it again. Full data: www.falseprofits.ca/reports

I'm grateful to my surgeon too. When he came to see me in the ICU he held my hand while he talked to me. I'm still ventilated, full of tubes and wires and that human touch made such a difference, calming me and reassuring me.

I had a mechanical heart valve implanted in 1989. I'm thankful every day for all the researchers and all the research participants over many years in many different places. Without them I wouldn't have the life I have.

When I began working as a psychologist in hospitals I was also struck by this opening line: "Thank you for asking me to see Mr. X, a 68 year old, married carpenter..." Name, age, marital status and vocation. And thanks for the referral...

Pill-shaming is ableism.

It derives from poor science literacy and pseudoscientific health ideology in the anti-psychiatry movement and alternative medicine industry.

There's no shame in accepting medication.

No one deserves to experience stigma.

US strikes on Iran ‘outside international law,’ says Macron Macron joins Spanish PM Pedro Sánchez in calling the legality of the strikes into question.

After four days of hesitating, the president of France has joined the prime minister of Spain in saying that the 🇺🇸🇮🇱 attack on Iran is a violation of international law.

But they are still the only 2 EU leaders to have done so. Will others join?

IRAN WAR ESCALATES - CANADA MUST DO ITS PART !!! YouTube video by Charlie Angus

There are no guardrails constraining the beasts in Washington, Tel Aviv or Tehran. Anything is possible as this war spreads.
Canada must stop tiptoeing around. We must push for action at the UN and work with allies to try and de-escalate.
This is my latest statement.

Gender roles in Neolithic Hungary may have been more flexible than researchers previously expected. 🏺🧪
