We have a new website! Check out the What's On page for upcoming events including online talks, tours and workshops! bartsnorthwing.org.uk
Although some of the glass has been replaced over the years, the window was originally in the medieval hall of the hospital and was later moved to the Great Hall - making it the oldest part of the building!
The Charter Window has returned to its home in Barts North Wing after undergoing extensive conservation at @holywellglass in Somerset.
The window depicts Henry VIII re-founding the hospital in 1547, handing the Charter for the hospital to the Lord Mayor of London.
The word ‘refugee’ comes from the French réfugié, originally referring to Huguenots - an estimated 50,000 of these refugees settled in Britain.
Moses de la Haize left France as a child and donated to the hospital in 1735 and 1749.
W.A. Delamotte, the first official hospital artist was also the son of a Huguenot refugee.
Today is World Refugee Day! Did you know that on the walls of Barts North Wing’s Great Hall there are the names of Huguenot refugees and their descendants? Huguenots fled religious persecution in France in the 16th and 18th Centuries.
We are excited to be running a stall again tomorrow for View Day - an annual day to celebrate St Bartholomew's Hospital, it's history, place in the city and ongoing work in the wider community. We will be running activities all day, come and say hello!
Very interesting, thank you for sharing!
I had a lovely walk around Clerkenwell this weekend, in preparation for my upcoming well-being walks with Barts Hospital staff. The walks are part of a wider #well-being programme for staff, patients and visitors, organised by @bartsheritage.bsky.social Can’t wait to get started!
What better for our first post than to say we have been in the news this week! Read more about our plans to reopen the North Wing later this year here: www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
