Last week, I co-facilitated an OpenSciEd PL workshop w/ LA Ts as a part of a study to investigate the efficacy of OpenSciEd.

I am always impressed by the professionalism Ts bring to their craft. Investing in Ts & their Ss is important, & the opportunity to learn from and with Ts is a privilege.

The @5dassessment.bsky.social team at BSCS collaborated w/ sci T leaders in Saint Paul Public Schools to customize HQIM to better engage Ss’ interests & sci-linked identities. Ts used info from Ss & standards to identify alt phenomena to anchor revised assessments that they will pilot this fall.

I wrote about the 23-year-old crypto bro with effectively no relevant work experience, who @alondra.bsky.social revealed is sitting in meetings, not paying attention, and then giving the thumbs up/thumbs down on whether they can get their NSF grants...

I was wondering why my work travel was so expensive, and airlines charging more for 1 passenger vs 2 explains it. See sample fares on @americanair.bsky.social for PHL-MSP, a route I usually fly: $847 for 1 and $390 for 2. Ridiculous.

Why I’m Resigning from the NSF and Library of Congress I cannot participate in systems that require dishonesty as the price of belonging.

"For me, the answer now lies in refusal, the withdrawal of participation from systems that require dishonesty as the price of belonging."

Today I am resigning from the National Science Board and the Library of Congress Scholars Council.

I wrote about my decision in TIME.

For the rest of the fiscal year, no new contracts will be issued for STEM Ed, β€˜DEIA,’ pathways into STEM, STEM Ed research, climate, environment, or EJ. This Friday, we’re expecting another large tranche of abrupt grant terminations, and the abrupt archiving of at least four more EDU programs. 2/5

NSF has awarded almost 50% fewer grants since Trump took office The reasons aren’t clearβ€”and the agency’s director claims the president’s policies haven’t slowed grant awards

My organization, @bscs.bsky.social, was founded over 60 yrs ago in response to Sputnik & the recognition that rapid investment in #SciEd was needed to spur innovation. Investment in education research has given rise to HQIM, like #OpenSciEd, & new ways to promote shifts in classroom practices. 1/4

Research can improve sci teaching in rural areas. With #NSFFunding, we designed & tested the impact of an online course to help Ts better engage Ss & help Ss see themselves as doers of sci. We found big impacts on the quality of Ts assessments & teaching practices. Invest in Ss. Protect #NSFFunding.

Free Teacher Learning Resources to Support NGSS Implementation

What Are They?

The National Research Council's A Framework for K-12 Science Education and the resulting Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) represent a new vision to help all students understand the natural and built world. As educators realize this new vision, many problems of practice come up. STEM Teaching Tools are co-authored by teachers and researchers to illuminate these issues and give advice about how to accomplish specific pieces of the NGSS. The resources are short. direct. easily shareable, and offer links to other useful tools.

WHY THEY MATTER TO YOU

Teachers need tools to reflect on how their teaching aligns with the NGSS & NRC Framework vision These teacher learning resources have been designed to be easily shared with others.

District staff & PD providers can use these tools in professional development to support implementation of the new vision.

Schoolleaders can use the tools to understand crucial aspects of the new vision for K-12 science education and then implement plans to support teachers' professional growth.

False fears about DEI kill critical funding for teachers in high-needs NC schools | Opinion These funds are not about DEI. They are about a situation best described in capital letters as DIRE.

Yup. β€œThe abrupt termination of $600 million in federal grants for teacher recruitment and retention ranks among the most hurtful and counterproductive actions of the new Trump administration – and that’s saying a lot.”
