Hundreds of studies on sea level rise and coastal hazards have underestimated the height of the oceans by ~ 20 to 30 cm on average. In some places, they were > 1 m off.

Sea level rise is decades ahead of where we thought it was.

I've got my @sn-media-guild.bsky.social gear on today in solidarity with my colleagues who are out on the picket line! (My cat is clearly impressed.)

Here are some numbers: The @society4science.bsky.social CEO @mayaajmera.bsky.social received a $77K raise in 2022, and then a $63K raise in 2023. That first number is more than some employees’ entire salaries!

Our employees deserve a transparent and equitable pay structure.

This may be hour 3 of @sn-media-guild.bsky.social's picket, but it's also been more than 13,400 hours of negotiations. @society4science.bsky.social has spent that time opposing our demands for a fair and transparent pay structure and flexible work arrangements. But we're not giving up anytime soon✊

Workers of the Science News Media Guild will conduct a 24-hour #strike on Wednesday, 11/5. This comes after our members voted to reject the Society’s latest contract proposal. Our members previously voted by 92% to authorize a strike against the @society4science.bsky.social, if necessary.
