Why Queer People Are in the Midst of a Painful Social Media Migration It turns out that moving on, even “just” online, isn’t so easy.

I did a thing. Actually @tomatoslayers.bsky.social did the work. I just talked, but I'm happy to have been a part of it.

Encyclopædia Britannica will continue to use ‘Gulf of Mexico’ for a few reasons:

-We serve an international audience, a majority of which is outside the U.S.

-The Gulf of Mexico is an international body of water, and the U.S.’s authority to rename it is ambiguous.

New — The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) was told this week by DOJ that they'd lose their funding if the org didn't remove any mentions of LGBTQIA+ issues from their public materials, I've learned. Staff were told they need to deadname trans kids in their reports to comply.

I knew one day I’d have to watch powerful men burn the world down – I just didn’t expect them to be such losers

I’m Stepping Away from Meta

By removing fact-checking safeguards and allowing hate speech targeting marginalized communities, Mark Zuckerberg (@zuck) has turned Meta into a haven for bigotry, misinformation, and conspiracy theories — harms that fuel real-world violence.

Zuckerberg pointed to X (Twitter) as a model, despite its well-documented failures with hate speech and extremism. These changes, during a time when LGBTQ+ rights are under attack — including moves to challenge same-sex marriage — are a direct threat to marginalized communities and a failure of responsibility. 2/3
Historian Timothy Snyder’s On Tyranny provides key lessons that highlight the dangers of Meta’s recent actions:

**Lesson 1: Do Not Obey in Advance**
Meta’s alignment with X (Twitter) and political agendas shows dangerous preemptive obedience, normalizing harmful forces without resistance.

**Lesson 4: Take Responsibility for the Face of the World**
Platforms like Meta must take responsibility for preventing hate and misinformation. By failing to do so, they foster environments where bigotry thrives.

**Lesson 10: Believe in Truth**
Removing fact-checking safeguards devalues truth and enables misinformation, leaving society more vulnerable to manipulation and authoritarianism. 3/3

In the coming days, I’ll be reaching out to stay connected with the people who matter most and deleting my past content. After that, I’ll delete my Meta accounts and remove their apps.

If you value truth and human dignity, I encourage you to reflect on the platforms you support.

I’ve set up a Bluesky account, but haven't decided if I'll actively use it: alangentry.bsky.social
