13.08.2025 07:30 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0i'd say that the biggest pain is making the assets. Connecting the screens and doing all the programming doesn't take very long in comparison. You could connect all screens in a couple of days. I'm certain Myst/Riven development time was mostly spent on making the 3D world and atmosphere.

It allowed you to create new screens in game through a debug menu and then save the screen as data in a txt file. You still have to connect the screens manually but you can edit them in a more intuitive way.

If you have 1000+ screens i might consider automating parts of the process or making a level creator/your own engine. We only had 90 screens in our game.
