A four-panel comic called "The Four Seasons of Bird Watching." In Panel 1, titled Elegant Songbird Spring, a yellow-throated vireo is singing against a green backdrop. In panel 2, titled Subtle Treasure of Summer, a hermit thrush sits in a lush deep woods. In panel 3, titled Magnificent Fall Migrations, broad-winged hawks fly over a colorful fall forest. In panel 4, titled Weird Duck Time, three ducks are calling exuberantly: a northern shoveler, red-breasted merganser, and surf scoter.
It's Weird Duck Time again!
I made this comic a few years ago, and I was unsure if anyone else felt like winter was best characterized as the time of the weird ducks. The term has caught on and I've heard people using it without knowing where it's from, which is the highest possible honor.

View from within a bedroom looking out of a window at a fence painted with a mural depicting desert plants and animals.
Feeling cozy today, working on plans for a native pollinator garden come spring. Gonna get a coffee and some art supplies for another project later today and do some linocut carving.

A flock of varied species of birds sits atop a juniper bush. Thereβs bluebirds, a robin, and pine siskins.
A group of different species gathered together up in the foothills of Sandia. Thereβs western bluebirds, a robin, and I believe some pine siskins. #birds

A steamy cup of green tea next to a small plate with a peanut butter and banana toast, drizzled with honey and cinnamon.
Green tea in the morning has become a ritual for me. I watched a video yesterday about the dissapearance of rituals and how the drive to reach never ending goals inhibits lingering, or real presence. Thought it was a good listen; hereβs the link: youtu.be/AeqeiZ3o0hw?...

A Sandhill crane stands out among other Sandhill cranes wading in shallow water.
Two Sandhill cranes flying overhead.
A lone Sandhill crane wading in a flooded grassy field, searching through the submerged grass with its beak making a pretty ripple on the waters surface in the late evening.
Four cranes fly overhead, with a fifth just to the right.
Sandhill cranes spotted at Bosque del Apache wildlife refuge in New Mexico. They are so fun to watch! #birds
