Malia Bee Pendant: A 3,800-year-old accessory found in a Minoan 'pit of gold' This extremely detailed depiction of insects holds clues to the natural world of the ancient Minoans.

Your Monday morning astonishing artifact is the Malia "bee" pendant. (Spoiler alert: they may be wasps.) 🏺πŸ§ͺ

Crazy how every time there's discourse about gender neutral language for pregnancy/childbirth/etc, I see a bunch of people pretending like people who give birth and don't ID as women don't exist at all. Even people who probably think they're not transphobic lol

Also this post made me check if Diane Duane had made her way over here yet and I am stoked she has because she was one of my favorite Tumblr follows.

I've only read Diane but I am excited to add the others to my list!!!

(Although looking at her bibliography I think I might have read a Star *Wars* novel by Vonda McIntyre πŸ˜‚)

My photo shows a small dark brown leather Roman baby boot displayed on a red background. It is a mini version of an adult shoe. It has intricate, delicately tooled β€˜fishnet’ uppers and would have been an expensive item. Excavated from the Commanding Officer’s residence at Vindolanda fort. Dated around AD 100, when the residence was lived in by Flavius Cerialis, prefect of the ninth cohort of Batavians, with his wife Sulpicia Lepidina, and children. On display at Chesterholm Museum, Vindolanda.

2,000 year-old leather baby boot from Vindolanda Roman fort on the northern frontier of β€˜Britannia’. So small it’s unlikely the owner did much walking in it!

From the residence of the fort commander and his wife, it possibly belonged to one of their children. πŸ“· me
